seafoaming doesnt work?
seafoaming doesnt work?
so i bought a can of seafoam and im pretty sure i did it wrong since its 1 can for the fuel tank.......
so my friend said he done it before and would help me but he has a mazda rx8.....any who so i put about half the seafoam in the fuel tank or technically he did and we put some of it in the vacuum line.... he said we needed to wait for it to sit for awhile and we did....when i started my car i saw SOME smoke come out but wasnt that much and when he did his it was basically straight white smoke coming out the exhaust.... so i just want to know if i did something wrong or if their is something wrong with my car? would really love some help ^^

Half a can isnt very much for these motors, I always use a full can in the vacuum, and when i put it in the fuel i use a whole can. And 2 it all depends on which vacuum line you used. If not done properly you are only seafoaming half the cyls. Nothing is wrong with your car.
yes the master vac port- has a nipple fitting the hose slides over and has squeeze type clamp. You add slowly via sip sip sip hose and cup method OR get a can of deep creep- seafoam aerosol and spray thru both TB air inlet plate- to clean it, and thru master vac port
Its definitely an art to doing it correctly
Preheating engine drive is required, then add seafoam, wait 10-15minutes MAX and start engine, allow to stabilize and then begin specific rpm after-drive so you don't foul the plugs with carbon- defeating much of your purpose
Smoke will only come from exhaust- and only with vac method
Oils make up seafoam ,HEAT in the cat convertor causes reaction to those oils as they pass thru exhaust = smoke!
Means nothing as to cleaning effort or need or actual results!
best thing for you is add 1 can to half a tank, then in a tank or 2, add another can to just under half a tank
That will clean more parts and more thoroughly than the vac port method.
vac port is really for techs who need to remove loads of carbon for a diagnosis on poor running
You just want it clean and healthy
1 can to just under full tank is midyear `maintenance dose`
we have a diy for seafoam, a few of them actually
please see the diy section before performing other maintenance or repairs to your TL
It will save you in the end!

I would recommend using one of the vacuum lines that that attach to the intake tube BEFORE the throttle body. That way the seafoam has a chance to clean the TB as well
Its the only way i have ever done it.

I will go one further and suggest removal of the intake snorkel tube to air filter and use spray can of Deep Creep
That way you can clean both sides and edge of the round air plate in the throat
that's a very important part to clean and lube its hinge
BUT
for most- the 2 can thru 2 half tanks of gas is the simple effective way with no problems or concerns
Then clean TB air plate as separate job
