rough starts

Well whenever i turn the car on during the day it starts pretty rough. It seems like it cranks well, but as soon as the engine turns on and goes to idle i can tell its not smooth. I'm guessin its time for me to change something, is it spark plugs, i do know my battery is getting low, could that be it? But battery shouldnt cause rough starts.

So i took a video with my cell phone, sorry thats all i had on me. Quality is ehh, but you cant really tell anything from it. But i did notice something. When i start the car for the first time in the day the car idled at 1100 rpm, then like maybe a couple hours later i started the car again and it was idling at 700 rpm.

700 rpm is fine for idle, when the car is cold it idles higher to warm up the engine. so a few hours later the engine is still warm. i dont think anything is really wrong with you car, but if it is a uneven or sputtering/ruff idle then you might have some problems. you did say its not a smooth idle, but as long as there is not any vibration or ruffness i would not worry about it. check the motor mounts too

seafoam it and see if that helps

so your saying when the starter motor is cranking there is more vibration than normal, and once the engine turns over its smooth? i wouldn't worry much, if your really concerned you should check your starter motor for any problems and motor/tranny mounts.

how many miles are on your TL, if its over 105 then do the 105 service if you havn't. also a seafoam treatment wont hurt

I'm having that very same problem nowadays. Whenever I start the car first thing in the morning, it knocks the sh*t out of the car when I'm going into gear. Its harder when going into reverse. I'm almost certain its the mounts. I've had my TL almost six months and I'm gonna go ahead and replace all five myself. (3 engine, 2 transmission) I'm 99% sure you have the same problem. Good luck! I hope you solve it.

I've changed my engine mounts but not my transmission ones, and i know they are gone basically. I have 160k and i have not done the 105k service. I want to but i dont have the money. And i got the car around 145k ish. And i know the 105k service wasnt done cause this car used to be my moms.

A weak battery will introduce your symptom, assuming your engine mounts are good.

A leaky head gasket will allow coolant to blow out your exhaust. If you are experiencing any runability problems check your coolant level and also the oil. Depending on if the failed gasket is allowing coolant to enter the oil, it will appear milky in appearance. If your coolant is running low or looks a bit funky brown in color....you've got problems ! A compression test will tell the story.

Compression test is to check and see if your cooling/coolant system is leaking or not.

I have yet to see a 3.2 v6 mix coolant and oil...A really bad head gasket leak will let unburned coolant will blow out of the exhaust. but a small amount of coolant that is burning off of the piston will exit the exhaust as steam and is sometimes not very noticeable.the burning coolant in that cylinder will cause a misfire for a little while while its burning off.A cylinder leak down test or cooling system pressure test would tell you if you had a small leak developing in the head gasket between the water jacket and the cylinder....take a whiff of the exhaust on cold start..if it smells sweet...have the head gasket/s replaced...if a spark plug or a coil or injector was bad it would likely throw a misfire code and it would activate the CHECK ENGINE light...hope this helps...
