Rough Start up

Hi to all 2nd gen owners,

Anyways, My 2003 TL-S with 76,000kms has been starting up roughly which makes my front end and dash shake abit violently. I am assuming that my mounts could be shot. Has any of you had this problem with a bad engine mount?

Also, my car will still shake lightly at idle.

As a temporary fix, do you think over tightening myu front mount will cure the shaking?

Let me know what you all think. I'l get it checked out in a few weeks as i've been way too busy lately.

Thanks

you might need a tune up.
new spark plug, and also maybe need spark plug wire.
Try the cheap way 1st.
Clean the throttle body with carburator cleaner or the throttle body cleaner .
I had the same problem with my truck before.

gen2 03 no plug wires- coil pack on top of each spark plug

Motor mounts - usually you get thunk in shifting is the giveaway
dont think tightening that is going to help- its not like a normal mount anyway- it is an Acura after all !!

Your plugs should be ok at those KMs

Have a parts store (hopefully same in Canada) check the codes for you for FREE
If you get codes for multiple misfire cyl 3 4 5 , needs 3 coilpacks etc as the code- you need 1 coil
Try it on each cylinder until the car runs better- thats where it needs to stay!

DO NOT DRIVE- could lead to serious engine probs as the computer tries to make sense of the signals

Besides rough startup, do you have any problem when the car is running? If you have no noticeable problem when the car is running or on stop and go.... shaking at idle surely need some tuneup there.

stop and go seems to be fine. I'm just worried about the minor vibrating issue. I admit that i do accellerate hard at times because VTEC is so addicting...

Mine does the same thing, start-up and shut-down vibrates the car. If you step on it and let off quickly from a stop, do you feel a "clunk" in the pedals? If so, you have the same problem I do.- Bad mounts.

Alright, I booked an appointment at a recomended shop for a inspection which cost $35.

But anyways, I was told the engine mount between the TL and TL-S is different. Is that true? And therefore the cost of the engine mount is different.

But yeah, i'm gonna check online to make sure i don't get ripped off.

what did it do when you were driving and did the test mentioned above- if it thunks under loads- you got bad mounts- front and right side VERY common failure- hi tech vac assisted mounts for the front and rear make them pricey 120$- others in the 40$ range

ok... well i've let a friend's uncle who has worked on cars for over 20 years in HK to test my car. I told him that when my car is idling in gear (D and R) that the steering wheel shakes. He felt the shake but said that it is very minor shaking and is not a problem. he took a look at the front and side mount and said they are still fine. he said that the mounts are bad when you start to see them wear down or even start to crack. When that happens, i should feel more severe shaking in which the engine will rock more dramatically. He test drove the car with me in the passenger side and told me that the car is shifting smoothly.

But anyways, I'll let it run like this for awhile with the slight vibration that I'm worried about. As soon as I notice a greater vibration, I'm gonna bring it in to another mech.
I would assume that my engine mount is starting to fail but has not gotten to the point where is must be replaced.

Well, my vibration problems have not been solve yet. its still bugging me even after I've don't some inspection with a mech that said my car is ok.

One last question for all of you who replaced your front and / or rear mounts....

Do you feel that the car vibrates less whenever you start or turn off the engine than when you had bad mounts? Does your car vibrate less at idle as well?

If if your answers are yes, then I'm gonna replace atleast my front and rear mounts with INNOVATIVE MOUNTS from the group buy for $250 .

I'm just tired of and annoyed that my car shakes at idle. when i have my door open you can see it vibrate too. I remember that when I got the car brand new, it wouldn't do that, but it could be other things that can cause the shaking. it might be time for new spark plugs since i'm still on teh originals with 77,000 kms
