Replace Key Fob?

My Key fob - The electronic door/trunk lock control module has worn out in that the plastic has worn through where it goes on my key ring and I was wondering if one can buy a blank shell w/o the electronics and just switch them out?

Thanks

I believe you could get a new remote and program it to your car. I have done it on my 2004 Honda Accord. It should be a way for 2nd Gen TL as well.

BTW, found the topic on this forum through search. All you need is get a new remote from ebay and follow the steps below:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...program+remote

Thanks and credit goes to fsttyms1 !!!!

Good Luck.

The remote itself works fine -

It's just the part of the case where the key ring goes that wore out.

I suppose I could just try to get one from a wrecking yard or somewhere
and switch the guts rather than try re programming.

Do you think Acura might sell just the cases?

i doubt they sell the cases alone,
i think you can program the new remote yourself.

-open the driver's door, press and HOLD the door unlock button...put the key in the ignition and take it out (repeat this 4 more times within 10 seconds).....the door lock/unlock should cycle now to show that you are in program mode. now press the unlock button on the remote and make sure it works...then put the key back in the ignition and make sure eveything works fine....

This is what I remember from the instructions....if it doesn't work I will find the actual paper and fax it to you if you want.

Hope that helps...

Make sure the codes in the back of the new remote matches your old stock remote. Some key fob may look the same
but won't work with each other. Be sure to have all Key fobs you want working with you when you do this.

1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2 Within 1-4 seconds push the transmitter lock or the unlock button.

3 Within 1-4 seconds turn the ignition switch OFF

4 Within 1-4 seconds turn the ignition switch ON (II).

5 Within 1-4 seconds push the transmitter lock or the unlock buttin.

6. Within 1-4 seconds turn the ignition switch OFF.

7. Within 1-4 seconds turn the ignition switch ON (II).

8. Within 1-4 seconds push the transmitter lock or the unlock button.

9. Within 1-4 seconds turn the ignition switch OFF.

10. Within 1-4 seconds turn the ignition switch ON (II).

11. Within 1-4 seconds push the transmitter lock or the unlock button.

12. Confirm you can hear the sound on the door lock actuators. Within 1-4 seconds, push the transmittor lock or
onlock button again.

13. Within 10 sec, aim the transmitters whos codes you want to store at the receiver, and press the transmitter
lock or unlock buttons. Confirm that you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators after each transmitter
code is stores. Make sure you program all transmitters you want working within 10 seconds of each other.
Ones not included in this programming will no longer work.

14. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and pull out the key

15. Confirm proper operation with the new codes.

***make sure the serial number on the backs match.....Program at your own risk***

The TL keys have the chips in them, I found this but havent tried it yet..let me know if it works for you:

to program the transponder- (thats the immobilizer part)

sitting in dr. seat, put the master key in ignition, and turn to on.engine OFF. press the gas pedal 5 times to
floor and release. now press brake 6 times (press and release)

remove master key from ignition. install new key and turn to on...engine off. press gas to floor once. now wait.
the security light will blink for about 45-60 seconds, then it will go off if you did it correctly. once the light
is off, car should start.
