i know putting that stuff in is not a permanent fix---i really dont have the money to get it fixed right now
i guess im looking for a temporary fix for the moment till i can afford to get it permanentley fixed
just wondering if putting that stuff in is bad for the engine

go to each makers website and read the tech details and how to use properly.
then do a search for the product name + reviews or +comments
you should find plenty of info on the internet
I saw the special `rear main stop leak` on a speed tv program recently, iirc `2 guys garage`, (ck speedtv website-links etc) and while they are doing advertising- they did seem impressed with the product-
something different was in it than the normal engine seal stop leak--
specific to the rear main ,,
or at least great marketing of the same old stuff
assumedly for use in emergency low cash flow situation, old chevys with notorious leak etc
why some dont like lucas engine treatment and not for the TL: it tends to foam easily and aerate, not good for the general operation of the oil
In many other engines it would be fine
We have vtec- which operates off changes in oil pressure, so you want clean easy flowing fluid going thru the many tiny oil gallies of the engine

Hi, new '99 TL owner here. Car has ~160k miles on it. Unfortunately, I'm very likely to need to get the rear main seal replaced. I'm hoping to get some advice on what other things I might want to have replaced once the tranny is out of the car, so that i can hopefully avoid any other problems that will involve 8-10 hours of labor to replace a $50 part.
Thanks.
Thanks.
first
ck the pcv valve above rear valve cover- near the throttle cable end of engine
remove and shake- a ball like device should move freely
If it doesnt you may solve the oil leak with a ~10$ part
when that vave is sticky or stuck- internal engine pressure has no escape-
the easiest path for it becomes `thru the rear main seal` where it pushes some oil too
Definetly worth removing and testing of that part
read this thread-- as he figures out the actual problem
If its really the rear main- thats all there is inside! the trans is a sealed unit
they can change fluid while its in the shop
trans remove and replace Labor should be 4 to 6 hours depending on the shop,
maybe charge you an extra 30 minutes to remove flywheel and replace seal
rear seal is not 50 dollars! where did you get this estimate! dont use them~

Thanks for the advice on checking the PCV valve. I'll do that.
What I meant about other things was not so much tied to the rear main seal job itself, but whether there were other things that could be checked and possibly replaced while the tranny was already out.
As for the $50 number, not entirely sure where I got it. I thought it was from a different thread either on here or on the Accord site, but it wasn't from a shop. In fact, when I had the car at Honda yesterday, they estimated ~$1000.
