Question Re-paint Fog light housing?

I've noticed the inside of my fog light housing is starting to peel away, so the reflective coating that is in there is starting to chip off leaving the black showing. I was curious if I paint the inside with a chrome paint (after all the necessary sanding and priming of course) would the chrome paint have the same reflective quality as the stuff that's in there right now? Am I wasting my time with that? Thanks in advance for any info that you have.

Exactly the person I was hoping would reply. I know you know a lot about painting. Thanks!

I've never had much luck with the chrome paint from a can when it is next to "real" chrome. I suppose it could work, but it will be hard to get a consistent finish. The differences, in my opinion knowing my "spray can skills," would be too much for it to look good. I'm sure you could do a better job though.

I doubt it...I am not a great painter at all. I did my engine cover and valve cover they came out decent but those are fairly easy to paint. Thanks for the vote of confidence though.

Just get a new one, they are cheap on ebay and check our black market forum. Replace both of them with Lexan lenses so you don't have to worry about glass breakage anymore.

Thanks. I've actually found quite a few good deals on ebay for the lights, I was surprised. I had the lexan on the ones I just took off and the lexan melted right in in front of where the bulb is so I don't know if I got a cheap rip off or not.

The silver coating is electro-plated onto the inside housing, not painted.
