Exclamation Raining in Orange County....Intake, urghhhh

Ok guys here is my problem. We finally decided to get some rain in Orange County. Well on my way home I hit a samll puddle of water. As I drive about a mile and get to a stop light I feel the car idling hard. The RPM's are goin from normal to 1.5k and it just goes back and forth. If I put it in park it just revs up and down, continuesly. When I got home I shut the car off and started it back up with with no problems and then the CEL came on. After a few seconds it started again.

Oh, by the way. I have the AEM CAI with no bypass valve (who needs it in SoCal). I dont think the puddle was deep enough to do any major damage.

Help me out fellas before I go to Autozone.

If u think u that you might have sucked up water in the intake you should drain the oil and check it then take out all the plugs and bump the key to get the water out of it which i doubt there is water in there since u drove the car that long with any major problems. But to answer your question there could be many different reasons why that happened. Someone else chime in and help him out

Thanks for your feed back. I took it to Autozone and checked the codes. It read, P0505, Idle Control Valve. Its weird, after I got home and let the car sit for a couple of hours and got back in it to go to Autozone, it ran fine, no surging or anything but my CEL was still on.

With the reading as is, should I take it to a dealer or is something I can fix myself?

they should be able to use the scanner to reset the code, if the code comes back on that means more than likely there is something wrong with it. Do a search there are alot post about IAC on how to clean/replace em hope that helps

Yes, they did reset the code. I am gonna drive it for a while and see if anything happens. In the meantime I will do a few searches and see what I can come up with.
Thanks for your help bro.

good code reset. I bet you got a little water in the IM and the surging was a result of your engine flooding slightly and I mean slightly. A little fluid other than gas in your IM will pour into your intake valves and cause some vibration and surging. it will go away the more you drive your car. I would change my oil soon and you will be all set. the water will be out of the IM quickly, but there might be a little in your oil, but that will most likely evaporate due to the heat in your crankcase, but to be safe change your oil.
