Radio Code
Radio Code
Hey All! I was hoping my first post was going to be the typical "Check out my 2003 TL Type S" with some cool pics, so I could get back the obligatory "Needs a drop and some wheels" (which it does) But unfortunately I fubar'd early.
I know I'm not the first guy to post this, and I've searched but haven't found the answer to THIS question:
I let the battery run down and now the radio needs a code. I've checked the side of the glove box which has an 8 digit code which includes 0's and 7's so I think thats not it. I've looked in the trunk and under the fuse box lid in the engine compartment to no avail. I didn't get a manual with it.
In the meantime, I tried so many random codes that it's now saying Err1. I called the dealer and the lady in the service department is saying I can clear teh error by disconnecting the battery again, which I believe. She's also saying they will need to pull the radio to get it's serial number so they can determine the code. This I don't believe. Sounds stupid and expensive! Say it's not so!
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Call the dealer that the car was originally purchased from, you can find this on the acura owner link www.ahm-ownerlink.com. Ask for the service manager and tell him you lost your radio code. Give him the vin number and he should give it to you free of charge over the phone. If he says you have to bring it in tell him you bought the car used and you live in a different state now. They want you to bring it in and charge you $90 for a 1 min. code look up, total bullshit.
Thanks for the replies! I signed up at that site (turned out I was already signed up from my Oddysey) and I couldn't find where the car was sold. But they were recommending I take it to a dealer in southern california, when I've always lived in northern, si I wondered if that was the selling dealer. I called them and they were in fact able to give me the code! Yay!
Thanks again!
I'll be posting those pics another time

I didn't want to start another thread with a radio code question. So I figured i would post in here. I've read through all the old threads tried every trick mentioned taking out the antenna from the back of thew radio to the rear window. And my code still is not being accepted. What else can I do or is there something really wrong with the radio and i should go aftermarket?

on some models there is an easy way to get the radio serial number
with the radio off try holding down the number 1 and number 6 then turn the radio on while still holding 1 and 6 it might flash the serial number

I know i have the right code cause i got it from the dealer and it has worked before. I called the dealer and they want 120.00 to fix the radio. Is there a way to tell if teh radio is bad?
Hello my fellow TL'ers, my '99 TL needed a new battery over the weekend and after replaced my battery, my radio asking for code.
I could not find the card with radio code in my owner manual so I called the dealership where they have my VIN number & service record. They called back & said for '99 and older TL, I need the serial number of the radio in order to look up the code. There will be $45 to remove the radio in order to find the serial #.
$45 is not bad but I'm hoping there is an easier way. Any help is appreciated.

Remove the radio yourself and take a pic of serial number or a xerox copy of it and your registration for the car- to prove nothing is stolen, and the parts dept guy looks up the code for free
A box of donuts generates a lot of goodwill
Dealer doesnt "fix" the radio for 100+$$, the pull it to get the serial number off the back and look in the computer
Everyone should register their car with acura by VIN, and store the radio code there for future referance- radio locks down when power removed- prevents theft

ok this happened to me 3 days ago and this is what I did.
Called the nearest acura dealership and they said I have to pay them 120$ for the code, F that shit. Then I called a dealership in BritishColumbia and they asked for a serial number of the stereo. In my 99tl the seril number was on a sticker on the side of the glovebox. gave him that number andhe gave me the code in 2 sec.
