Emergancy brake adjustment.
Emergancy brake adjustment.
My e-brake isn't holding like it use to, and I want to adjust it. I have done this before on my Integra's so I feel I can do it on this car as well, just don't know how to go about it since it's a foot brake. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I know for FACT, having been inside the rear brakes on my 01TL several times now,
there is a mini set of drum brakes that are inside the center hub of the rear rotor
Thats the PARKING brake- I wouldnt use those for an emergency!!!
Requires complete removal of caliper and bracket to do correct adjustment
To inspect first- keep going until you remove the rotor.
Check the contact surface with the brake drum and shoes, they are pretty thin to begin with, are they down to nothing? replace like normal drum brakes, a little tight on room to work but can be done
If they are ok, loosen the star adjuster wheel at the bottem so no drum/shoe contact
Install rotor
Rotate rotor and listen for contact as you click adjuster 1 notch at a time.
After you hear contact, 4-6 clicks sets the thing right
Install bracket and pads-caliper-wheel
Other method I heard of but not tried:
There may be an adjuster at the foot brake- give it a few clicks and remember to redo it when you work on the rear brakes- or the rotor wont come off !

But we dont drive accords
we drive TL's
Totally Lame way to do things!
But it does keep the brake pads from being under pressure against the rotor when hot
Its not that involved-
5 nuts remove wheel
2 bolts remove caliper
2 bolts remove bracket
2 screws- remove rotor
1 screwdriver adjust park brakes
You're there!!!
