Radiator / Fan issue
Radiator / Fan issue
OK, My coolant and condeser fans only work with AC on. They both work when the car is not on, key on 2 and turn AC on. They also come on when the car is running, and the A/C. The temperature gauge is two ticks below half way or 9 0'clock, so seems OK. My upper radiator hose gets very hot, compared to the lower hose. My heat is also not working very well, just doesn't get real hot.
I just replaced my coolant sensor and thought that would be the cure. It has been a long cold winter in Ohio, so I'm thinking this just hasn't reared its true potential overheating problem. The fans used to go on after driving and stay on for 5 minutes or so, or kick on in traffic. I thought it was the coolant sensor that kicks on the coolant fan. My concern is certainly overheating and having an isolated melt down to a certain area that may not be temp sensed.

Check your coolant level in both the radiator and the coolant overflow. Drive 10 miles or so, then let the car idle with the ac off. If the temp doesn't go above 1/2, as you described, you're done checking the cooling system. A thermostat would show up in the first 10 minutes, and you've already verified the operation of the cooling fans. If the coolant isn't low, your heater problem is probably the water control valve, heater door, plugged heater core, or cabin air filter. What I'm saying, is that if your temp gauge goes to 1/2 within 10 minutes and stays there, you have a heater problem, not a cooling system problem.
