questiona bout passenger axle

well am getting tired of the shaking, so im starting to check out things, few moments ago, jacked up both sides, driver is fine, but on passenger side, when i grab #4 closer on the inside attached to the halfshaft assembly, i feel it click in and out, so first, thats not normal correct? should be no play at all. and Secondly, if i order the outter driveshaft assembly, do i need to order the inner?

in this pic, plan on getting #4, question is do i need #4+#17?

also dealer charges 500+ for this part? sheesh, was planing on going thru napa...

advice appreciated.

17 is the intermediate half shaft(to make the the half shafts equal length) all you would need is 4 if it is bad

so even though when i grab my hand on the inner part of #4 (#7 to be exact) and pop it in and out, all i would need is #4?

but main question is, should there be play in that area, or no play at all?

Get the whole thing #4 will be better cuz it usually come in whole. I did mine 10 days ago 75 us dollers including labour and parts a set w/ no problem, I don't know the cost + labout for #7 only . I did both side $150.Whole set parts only $45~$75.

If you do end up replacing the axle, or axles, napa or other aftermarket sources are fine. Make sure you get new as opposed to reman. Slight wear patterns in the cv joints are often overlooked when they are rebuilt, and you can end up no better off or even worse. I don't know of any for sure way to tell if it's the left or right axle. If you search you may find more info. Many have just done both.

damn if thats the case then i dont have a clue what could be causing this shaking...its so god damn irritating...

i did notice that when i had my 16 winters on, there was a humming sound at 60kph, now with my 18s the sound comes on at 80kph...so its something based on the diameter of the rims........can a wheel bearing cause that problem, with is fluctuating based on the rim/tire size?

it doesnt mean the axle isnt bad. It may be bent slightly causing the vibration/shake. A wheel bearing would make a humming noise, changing the rims shoudnt change it.

There is a place you can order online and they are about 90 bucks for each axle which isnt too bad. I was about to order them, but I'm going with my bearings for now. I dont think its my axle. Anyways, I've ordered from them before and they are in Canada with free shipping over 75 bucks. Parts seem to be ok.

I had a problem with my right side (passenger side) CV joint, wheel side. As per my research, this seems to be a common problem and exactly with the passenger side only.
Since the whole assembly is relatively cheap, if you need to, the simplest and easiest is to replace the whole half shaft with CV joints as an assembly.
I am in Toronto and initially I have ordered mine from bestpricecarparts:

http://www.importcarpartscanada.ca/index.wws

…which turned out to be a big mistake. They have sent me a wrong part and I went through the hassle of returning it. I did order some other parts from them before and did not have problems though (namely side and front engine mounts).
Ultimately I have bought it from NAPA which is my advise to you.
Reman is about $140 CAD with tax and the new one is may be $20 CAD more. Reman has 3yrs warranty and the new one is lifetime.
In my case, the car was shaking/wobbling when accelerating but you have to keep in mind to also check the ball joints (both upper and lower) plus your engine mount (side and front). I had to replace ball joints and engine mount as well. All of these are common to go.
