I'm assuming the "Push" button on your cup holder doesn't work anymore? It has probably broken and needs to be replaced.

You might be able to fix it by readjusting the locking mechanism. The doors would not stay latched on my 1999 TL and I was able to fix it by re-adjusting the interlocking gears that are hidden below the release button.

Others have reported similar repairs.

pop the wood trim off and remove the screws that hold it in place. once out you should be able to see the gears and see if its something you can fix or if you have to replace it.

i did a DIY and it would have worked out flawlessly....except i got impatient for the glue to dry that bound one screw to a gear wheel, so i tried to use a heat gun to speed up the process--i accidentally melted the parts i was trying to fix.

does anybody know where i could get one of these online?i dont even know what that assembly is even called to begin with.

I don't know if there's a DIY posted anywhere but here's a thread with some cupholder door repair tips:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147164

The most important step is to remove the cupholder assembly so that you can access the gear mechanism and see what's going on.

Thanks guys! My cupholder now opens and closes like it should The passenger-side lid was 'loose'/off the gear, and my locking mechanism was also unlatched due to gear out of position.
I found it easier to remove all eight screws leaving the two (one on either side) towards the shifter, and then remove the two that are in the lower storage compartment under your armrest. After that, it's as easy as gently sliding the (center console?) part with armrest backwards/upwards (careful not to rip the connector to your second power source/light in storage compartment) and the cupholder will just be left stuck on the shifter side. Pop it out and do your thing! Good time also to clean up any soda spills

I had a similar problem after popping the part close to the arm rest; until I took off the screws in the lower storage compartment, then just gently slide the entire arm-rest block backwards (making sure the wood trim is not on the way) you should have the cupholder just left on the shifter side. With the room you just created by sliding the armrest back, you should easily pop cupholder off the shifter side. Sorry I didnt take pics...

PS Read my post above plus this one to get the whole idea of how I did mine.

you need to open teh armrest and in the bottom of the console you remove teh 2 screws there under the carpet piece. then slide the whole armrest back a inch or so and it will come out
