Power steering problem... Unsure where to go from here.

Okay so I found out about a week ago on a cold morning when I starting up my 99 TL after getting off work "im in vegas only gets below 50 every once in a while"it sounded abnormally loud instantly moaning whining and hissing... Then as I got on the one when and started accelerating it disappeared and then as I took a u turn I noticed the harder I turned the worse the noise got and if I were to drive my car a bit turn it off then back on again it would still happen if I do an extremely sharp harsh turn however not it won't be nearly as loud as when its a cold start. A couple days ago I took my car into the acura dealership to get the oil changed... The guy didn't know what kinda oil he had put in so I had no choice anyways they did a full out inspection and one of many things they said I absolutely need before the car blows up is a complete power steering pump and rack I only know so much about these cars but am I wrong to feel like their just trying to charge me 1800 bucks for an entire new power steering pump and rack so they can make their months rent off of me? Has anyone else dealt with this before? I have used the search on here and came up with the o ring but i just really would like to get my ducks in a row before I make a move. And I bought the car for 3,000 bucks I can't spend 2000 on a pump and rack especially since they want 1000 bucks to do the timing belt also. Anyways thank you everyone for you input

Stay away from the stealer!

Find a trustworthy independent Honda/Acura specialist.

Those ps pumps wear out and make whining noises. Ever change the ps fluid?

Hey UA4Project702, ..... the first thing to do is check the PS pump's fluid level and condition. Inspect the pump and rack's hoses and fittings for potential leaks. Make sure that the pump's belt tension is ok.

If it's been awhile, try flushing and draining the old fluid and replenish with new Honda PS fluid. Could be contaminated fluid, improper tension, worn belt or pump components ? Focus on the pump's operation before condemning the rack. Could be something simple or possibly a bad pump.

Sounds to me like the inlet o-ring is done but it could be something else.
Check everything 3.2TLc mentioned

I have not had the chance to change the power steering fluid yet however I have checked and I really can not say this guy took the greatest care of it maintenance wise it's at 120,000 miles and the dealership says it's never had the timing belt done I mean what's that tell you... It is full on power steering fluid however it looks very dirty but I am unsure so perhaps I will drain it just to be sure. I will make sure to check all the hoses and everything. I did read about the inlet o ring and that does sound very similar I just want to make sure before I spend this money. I do know the dealership is terrible unfortunately I just don't know anyone here cause I just moved down here.

Try to find an independently owned local repair shop in the area. Ask your new neighbors !

Alright I'll start looking around a little more I had a serpentine belt go out on my wife's rodeo and had it taken to a little independent shop here and I did stop by but honestly for a timing belt they quoteded me 40 bucks more than the dealership which I couldn't believe. I have a customer at my work who's a mechanic who said he would do it for me for a 150 bucks the timing belt and the power steering pump also cause I helped him out one day but I'm unsure if I should atleast with the timing belt. I got to learn to do this stuff myself

Are you talking bout the same oring I saw on the facebook group? I have a real quiet noise when I turn the wheel, I think that's probably it. I couldn't really tell from the pics how to replace, you know how?

And sorry for threadjacking, figured having the info here would be better than a new one.

Chevelle66, Once you have taken the pump out and removed the hoses just unbolt the inlet part with a 10mm pull it away from the pump and you should see the o-ring.

I haven't seen the FB page, It is similar to what the 3G TL guys had a recall for but there symptom was worst with fluid spilling out the reservoir.

Tip: put a rag under the hose when removing them to avoid fluid spills.
