Possible Tranny Failure

I wake up and decide to be early for class for a change, very unusual for me. Get dressed kiss my gurlfriend goodbye and hit the road. No traffic! I was suprised. I'm on the highway doin' bout 80 and then some nut can't figure out which lane they wanna stay in, so I swerve. Thank God for my precision drivin',lol. Anyway bout ten minutes later I brake cuz I ran into light traffic. BOOM! No I didn't get in a accident but my transmission starts slipping like a B&*^%. I give it a little gas and and the RPMS jump but I'm still doin' 75, so I brake and it jerks a bit. So I had to drive 60 the whole way to school, sucks. Question, ok if I am goin' 80 should the RPMS be at 2,500? Second question, from what I notice it seemed as though the transmission did not want to change gears, not once did I see it go above 3,000 RPMS. It felt as though 3,000 was its threshhold. So should I take it to Acura or my mechanic who I trust? Sons Acura sucks and the other Acura dealership is about 40 minutes from me. I have a 99 TL and the warranty ran out in Nov. 20, 2006 now that just sucks!

I'd try Acura first. Some out-of-warranty TL owners have had all or part of the tranny repair covered. Check with your local dealer and/or call Acura's national customer care group. Some forum members recommend talking to the dealer's Service Manager only.

if you were able to drive 0-60 with no issues and you're limited at say 3k RPMs then i don't necessarily think the tranny is your problem. it could be, but it just sounds odd to me.

i would definitely just take it to acura and see. i was out of my warranty and they goodwilled my replacement last week.

I would try and take it to Acura first. The service you get is the service you give. Being a squeaky wheel doesnt always get grease. Explain to them what happened and if they are human, they should help you as long as it falls under the below warranty.

Acura/Honda has extended the TOTAL warranty 109,000 miles/7 years from the date of original purchase
