Pass. side view mirror moves on its own
Pass. side view mirror moves on its own
1. Went to dealer to have passenger side mirror (cracked) replaced.
2. New mirror (glass only) was replaced, but now, the adjustment motor on passenger side moves from centered to full top vertical (kind of like auto tilt, except the other direction), and back to centered again, with a clicking noise from the mirror, continuously. Also, it only happens after unlocking the car, but before putting the key in the ignition. Does not make a difference whether the adjustment controls are on L mirror, R mirror, or center position.
3. Dealer disconnects power to passenger mirror to save battery while new entire passenger mirror assembly is flown in.
4. Dealer receives new passenger mirror assembly, installs it, and same mirror movement from top to center and back again, continuously, is observed. This is still without the key in the ignition, as I open the door to drive it away.
Has anyone experienced this rare problem in the past? The car is back at the dealer for "special factory site diagnostics". I'm wondering if it could have anything to do with the memory seat settings controls? I've got an '03 TL-S, stock. Thanks for your help in advance!

It's been in at the dealer for four days now... They called and said the technicians could not get it to fail, and to come and pick it up. In the '05 TSX loaner (XM radio - woot!) on the way there, I got a call saying that the service tech had it happen to him just then, when he put it in reverse to back it up to the take out bay. This made them think it was related somehow to the seat and mirror memory settings as well as auto-tilt, and something in the electronics called a multiplexer. I'll keep y'all up to date, and thanks for the input.
Acura - Heal thyself!
The tech reset both memory seat and mirror settings, and the movement-on-its-own problem disappeared, and has not done it for a week. The auto-tilt in reverse works just fine too. He explained in some mumbo-jumbo that when the new mirror assembly was put on, that the mirror was not centered, and the system was trying to self-adjust itself back to center.
Whew!

I have a similar problem with my mirror..sometimes it doesnt even go down, then when it does go down it doesnt go back up!!..or when its going back up it goes ALL the way up..should i just take it in to Acura or call the customer service first??
