Parking/Headlight problem

I got in the car last night to go somewhere and noticed my left headlight wouldn't work. I have an 02 TL-S. I also noticed none of my dash lights worked, my parking lights wouldn't come on unless I turned the headlights on too.

I found a blown fuse for the left headlight, replaced that, but the left headlight still won't come on and my parking lights still won't come on, unless the headlights are on. The dash lights will only come on when the headlights are all the way on.

Is this a bad headlight switch or is there some link between the headlight and all the other lights not coming on?

Just an FYI.

Found out what the problem was for the lights.
1) for the dash & parking lights there is a fuse in the pass side engine compartment. Small Lights fuse. Replaced that and parking and dash lights work again.

2)After taking the whole left headlight out. There was enough water in the HD ballast that caused it to short out. I have since ordered and replaced an OEM replacement from this place

On the new ballasts they are putting a rubber grommet around the igniter wire plug to help prevent water from getting into the ballasts.

Hey Guys I'm new to this site and In dire need of some help. I purchased my 03 TLS about 6 months ago and I encountered my first problem just a few days ago.

I went and got my car undercoated, then a few days later I noticed that my driver side headlight was all foggy. I was uset but busy with work so I didn't think much of it. Lastnight I realized that the headlight now wasn't working. Does anyone have any idea? Could it be as simple as a blown fuse and just needing to replace the headlamp. Or is it possible that the ballast and ignitor may be fried? How can I check the ballast and or ignitor witout doing any further damage. The dealership wants $100 an hour just to tell me what may be wrong. and quoted me at $1400 plus taxes for a new Headligh, HID bulb, ballast and ignitor, plus labor.

I'm not prepaired to pay that kind of money for a headlight if I don't have to. Please anyone with any insite to this matter please write a post. Thanx Sincerely Chris

The same thing happened to me as well. I had a fogged up lamp, and the next thing I knew, one of my headlights was out. It ended up being the igniter which is on the underside of the headlight. The water went in there, and shorted it out.

Replacing it like the original poster did solved my problems also. To do that, you need to remove the bumper, then the headlight, and replace the igniter.

Unhappy

2003 Type-S A-Spec. I also have a lame headlight story. Passenger side headlight was working about 70% of the time. Went in to get it checked out and Acura quoted me about $450 for an hour of labor and a new Ignitor Coil. They wouldnt have gotten the part for a few days, and tried to convince me to leave my car with them so they wouldn't have to put the bumper back on and pull it off again when I decided to get it done. I needed my car so I got them to put it back together. I didn't want to spend that kind of cash to fix an intermittent problem.

For about a month after that, the headlight worked perfectly! Then one evening it didn't work at all. I ended up bringing it in, and they put the ignitor coil in. Light still didn't work, and they said my control box needed to be replaced. FINE, another $300 something - go ahead. Then it STILL didn't work, and they decided that I needed a new bulb too! Another $200!

I bitched them out for a bit and they gave me 10% off the parts, 10% off an hours worth of labor, and didn't charge me for the extra hour or so of labor that they put in. Regardless, it still cost me $996 to get my headlight repaired! Also, now that I've looked closely at it, it doesn't seem as bright as my driver's side light.

So, I don't know if not getting the coil replaced when it was first diagnosed resulted in the issue with this control box and bulb, or if these guys just misdiagnosed everything and it was just the bulb to begin with. I am kicking myself for not asking for my original "broken" parts back. Seems like it's a chain reaction with electrical issues. Once one thing goes, everything down the line ends up screwing up.
