Paint over scratches
Paint over scratches
My 2000 TL has some scratches on its metallic silver color body and bumper. The scratches on the body are not deep enough to show metal yet, but the ones on the bumper show the black color plastic. I purchased a small bottle of touch-up paint from the dealer and painted over the scratches. It did not seem to cover the scratches. So I painted over them a couple more times. It still did not cover the scratches that well.
The dealer where I purchased the touch-up paint confirmed that it is the right color and it contains clear coat as well. The dealer told me that I have to send the car in for a spray paint job of the whole side of the car costing over a thousand dollars in orer to hide the scratches. Anyone knows why? Is it because metallic silver is a very light color and thus it is difficult to hide the scratches? Any suggestion on how to do a better job?.
Thanks.

thin coats--- using the fine tip end of the dispensor
Build up layer and layer up paint- allowing to dry between each coat
Ask a girl how to do nail polish- same theory and application
When the paint is above the level of the area, you wetsand it with 2000 and then paint again as needed to blend the fix
Polish the area and do a full paint cleaning. polish, and wax of the whole car
See Off Topic link at top of page - then Wash and Wax section will help you more
