P1456 gas cap swap question
Hello, purchased a 99 Acura TL 6 days ago and today 230 miles later the CEL came on.
1999 Acura TL CEL came on this morning reading code P1456. (possible gas cap issue as we know).
I took off my gas cap and noticed that the o ring was cracked in a few places.
My question is this:
I have a 2006 Lexus Is 350 that is wrecked on the side of my house and by doing some research I have found that the replacement gas cap for the 99 Acura TL is also the same replacement cap for a 2006 Lexus IS 350.
So I just took the factory gas cap out of my Lexus and checked the o ring and it looks good. Next I took the gas cap out of my Acura and replaced it with the Lexus gas cap & it fit perfectly.
The only difference between the 2 caps is this, the Acura cap says click 3 times. The Lexus cap says click 1 time, there are no more clicks if you keep trying to turn, it just gets all the way tight.
I have now cleared the code and the waiting game begins.
I don't see why this wouldn't work but I would like to know what others think.
Thanks!

Yep, waiting game at this point unless you have a bi-direction scan tool to test the evap sytem with fuel tank pressure data.
If you have a basic OBD scan tool, you can keep an eye on the evap system readiness monitor. Once it completes it's tests and indicates complete and there is no CEL then you are good to go.
