Overheating Problem
For some reason my car (03 TL-s) is starting to overheat when sitting still. When i am sitting still for 5 minutes the thermostat will jump almost to red H. The fans sometimes do not activate unless the car is turned off. Does anyone know how to fix this? Im going to take it to acura because i think they did something when changing out my tranny...any advice on what is wrong?

the thermostat on the radiator could be bad...also, check your radiator cap. A loose cap or bad seal can cause problems as well.
Did you check your coolant level?

i was thinking it was the fan switch because it sometimes does and sometimes doesnt come on. I checked the fuse but it couldnt be the fuse because they still come on when the car is turned off. How much will the fan switch be to replace?

If you are the least bit handy you can do it yourself. It's located right near the upper radiator hose.
It's about a $35 part. It's #14 bottom right corner.

Did either of you figure out if it was the sensor or the relay?
I am having the exact same issue right now. With the AC on (outside temps 80+) and idle the temp jumps up near H. Start moving and it drops down right away. If I don't use the AC while driving, the fan doesn't come on, but if I drive with the AC on for about 5-10 minutes, the fan will kick on when the car is off for about 10 minutes usually.
Thanks,
J~
