o2 Sensor out

Hello,

I have a 2000 Acura TL and recently I went through a carwash which featured "high pressure underbody jets!". Well... in the middle of it my check engine light came on and my rpms dipped to 400. Alarm, i just floored it out of the wash.

I unhooked the battery to clear the CEL and after 2 minutes of driving, it came back on. I took it to a shop and said it was the front o2 sensor and would cost me about $260 with labor.

I went on amazon and went ahead and purchased a 2000 tl front Denso O2 sensor for $71 shipped.

Now I have 2 questions:

a) Wouldnt it be the o2 sensor IN the cat that went out if it was during a car wash?

b) where is the "front" o2 sensor located? I just bought a o2 sensor socket from kragen but I've never done this procedure before.

Thanks in advance!

Before i bought any thing i would have crawled under my car and made sure it was plugged in and water wasnt in the connection causing the code.

Our cars have 2 sensors. 1 before the cat, one at the cat. Car was or not it wouldnt have to be the one at the cat. Look near the flex pipe. That is the first o2 sensor.

I already have the Denso o2 sensor so I'm going to swap it out to check. But..

How the heck do you get to that little wiring connector? I'm laying under my car and I can't get my hands in there to disconnect the thing, let alone undo those plastic ties holding the green sensor wire in place.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I just reached up to do it. You can do it from the top as well Neither are easy but its not impossible. If you have a friend to help have them push in the tab from up top while you pull it apart from underneath the car. The clips come out if you squeeze the back side together and push in the tabs.
