is this normal in 4th?

okay.. probably a dumb question but everytime i realize im cruising in the city doing about 40mph and all of a sudden i would let go of the gas pedal and my car would naturally slow down on its own.. and my rpms slowly go lower and then it would suddenly just drop down to 800 rpm and bounce back up just above 1k rpm.. is this normal ? it kinda does this to all the gears but i realize it the most in 4th gear..

usually.. in most cars.. when you cruise in 4th gear and let go of the gas the rpms will drop just above 1k rpm with ease but in my car.. it feels like the car is engine breaking everytime i let go and step on the gas again..

Yea, I'm pretty sure it's normal. I remember watching a video about Honda cars disabling the fuel injectors. When the TPS indicates a closed throttle and you're at a certain RPM, the fuel injectors will disable. When you drop below that RPM, the fuel injectors will come back and bounce the RPM up.

Could be a completely different thing though?

i think it's weird.. feels like my car is sluggish whenever that happens.. like i would let go, and rpm's would hold at 2k rpm for a few seconds.. then it would suddenly drop to 800 rpm and bounce back up to just above 1..

cruising in 4th at 2k rpm is weird.. thought it should be somewhere around 1k..

but at 40mph im never cruising in 4th. always in 5th. 40mph in 4th at 2000rpm sounds right.

^ so youre using the sport shift to shift into 5th at 40mph right? i do that sometimes.. but i heard it puts stress onto the tranny.. shifting at shorter intervals..

It's fine if you know what you're doing. You can shift into 5th gear at 35mph minimum. Automatic shifts into 5th at 45mph. However, automatic won't drop you to 4th until you slow down to 40mph.

Somethin like that
