No vtec on my tl-s

This morning driving to work I saw in my rear view mirror I see a civic hatchback doing like 120mph trynna be an ass I tried to speed up and not let him pass and I noticed my car was shifting at 5k RPMs.. I didn't think much of it. On my was home I like to hear my vtec hit but it wasn't happening my car shifted at 5k.. even when i did the manual shifting it was redlining at around 5500 rpm. I hoping its not a transmission problem. I heard there is a vtec solenoid or something like that. Has any one had a similar problem. Also the check engine light turned on. I just want to get opinions. On sunday I gonna have access to a scanner to code the problem. Im just a bit curious to find out if its a common problem.

Your car is currently in LIMP mode so your redline is now effectively 5K (As when you are in Park and the tach won't go above 5K) this can though be caused by something completely unrelated to VTEC since it's threshold point is higher than 5K you cannot engage VTEC because your ECU is redlining in 5K.. Sometimes even when something related to VTEC goes south your redline is still 7K but VTEC never engages, For the car go to Limp mode something is seriously off...

Need to scan those codes ASAP.. Otherwise your car is being held by the Nuts until you clear those codes..

No problem! When you get the codes back come back here and we can help you with the diagnose.

In any case I would not rule out the trans since LIMP can engage when something in the trans is wrong, unless you get slippage the trans mechanically is fine but something like a Shifting Solenoid can also cause LIMP..
Usually though is something related to the engine, TPS, MAP Sensor, Knock sensors can and will put your car in Limp mode.. This mode is protecting the engine.

LIMP mode is 3000 limit if the ecu thinks there is an engine problems and you need to Limp off the freeway or to the dealer.
5000 limit is in Park/N gear so could be a sensor issue there

vtec wont operate with low oil level - so start there

CK Eng light with high speed use may point to cat clogging/overheat problem

what did the codes show? remember codes are clues= not diagnosis by themselves
