Need To Replace Second Set of Keys/Fob

Hi, I've used the search function and read around as best I can, but I'm still at quite a bit of a loss as far as my problem's concerned and could really use some help.

Basically, I lost a set of keys the other day. I still have one master key and fob, but lost the other one. I'm trying to replace it now, but I really don't know what I'm doing and need some advice. I called the dealership, and they told me it would cost $250, which seems obscene.

I have a 2000 Acura TL, and my questions are as follows:

1) Can I program the key myself? I've seen some posts and articles around saying that you can, but the dealership says I can't. If so, how.

2) I see lots of places where you can get the fob online etc and program it yourself. It always says something about needing a #1 fob or a #2 fob. How can I figure out which fob I have. I see a big two on the inside of mine, and am hoping that's it, but want to know for sure. Is it essential that I get one of the same number?

3) I still have my valet key. IF it's possible to program the key yourself, can I reprogram my valet key to become a master? Or is it cut differently?

Beyond this, if anyone knows where I can find the key/fob for cheaper, I'd really appreciate it. I'm not sure whether my dealership is trying to rip me off or not and don't know too much about this stuff, but $250 seems awfully steep for a key and fob.

Thanks so much for anyone who can help,

Seth

When I purchased my 2000 TL earlier this year, I also needed an extra key and fob. The key that came with it was worn (seems to common on older cars) and the fob didn't work even after replacing the battery.

The dealership charged me around $16 for a new key and "programming" it, and I think about about $50 for a new fob which they also programmed. I know you can get the key fobs cheaper off *bay, but I was there and wanted it NOW.

So yes, they are trying to rip you off.

Look in the black market for the fob, I bought my fob there. If you use the search, ther is at least one thread with the instructions.

If I can find the links, I will post them
