need help gas mileage sucks

hey guys i have a 01 tl with 105,000 miles the car has cai and catback on it and well the problem with my car is when i first bought the car i would go for ever without filling her up. but now i really cant go a week in hawaii without filling her up. i get about 190 miles to the tank thats really just city miles but highway miles i get about 230. but i really noticed the difference in gas mileage now. i havnt done any major maintenace on it and the maintence required light is on i think its the 90,000 mile light thats what i have been told. some people told me it might be the o2 sensors might be bad and probably the egr might be dirty. so i would really appreciate it if you guys could help me. thanks a lot.

First of all do a search there is a thousand threats on gas millage.

a. make sure your tires are the correctly inflated its good to have them at 35 some prefer 38 and make sure there is no TOO much wear on the tires.

b. fix your maintenance light lol.

c. seafoam that B**ch.

d. keep your rpm under 3k when accelerating

e. turn off your ac if you can, although is better to have ac on instead windows open bcuz of the drag.

f. make sure your oil is changed along with spark plugs etc.

There is hundred of other things to increase your gas millage, these are just few of the top of my head.

check the engine and cabin air filter, that will help with less engery consumption. Seafoam the car and also check the fluids for proper levels and colors. Also with 105k miles, You will need to the timing belt and other stuff soon. Check the air pressure in your tires and also get rid of any unnecessary weight such as a bag of sand in the trunk.

Seafoam it again, do 1 can to 1/4 tank of gas and 1 can into the intake vac line as per forum instructions
Use auto trans in D5, or D4 in traffic and hills, realize 18s are pulling a LOT of tire across the road surface and have changed the final drive gear ratio

NGK Iridium plugs will make it feel like new !!!

As long as the 18s are with the proper tire, the circumference will not change (same amount of tire to drag across the road). And if the final drive ratio did change, his odo wouldn't know it! He would just get farther than his #s say.

But, I know when I threw my headers, my mileage dropped. I think that the bit of low end power loss and the fact that I wanted to incessantly demonstrate to myself (and whoever else was around) that my car was faster and sounded better now! (see avatar) lol.

But with 18's your adding more weight and moving the weight further out which makes a big difference.

Show of hands please- from those who went from 16s to 18s, put sticky tires on it, and still got reasonable economy!!!

Do you mean the check engine light? Fix whatever is causing that before doing anything else.
