My TL loses elec. power

My 2000 TL loses electrical power while driving- dash goes dead and radio cuts out. This only lasts a second and the car can be sitting at idle or moving, so it does not appear to be something loose, like it changes when you hit a bump. You can see a blip in the idle, but the engine does not stall. Checked all the grounds etc. all seems ok.
Anybody ever run across something like this?
The shops want hourly rates to check electrical- my sons car, so i am trying to save him a few bucks.

Alternator most likely or a belt.

Ignition switches reportedly fail on '99s that cause that, not sure about 2000 models.

My money's on the ignition switch.

Start the car and while it is running, wiggle the key back and forth without changing the position of the key (i.e. don't turn it back off or accidentally crank the starter). Do the symptoms you've been experiencing start to resurface? If so, you have a bad ignition switch. Just because it's not a 99 does not mean it can't fail.

Call Acura Customer Care and see if your car is covered for the ignition switch recall.
Acura will replace it for free if you're covered.
If not, it's a very simple replacement. Just make sure you disconnect the battery before you work on it.

Being its a 2000 i doubt there is any coverage on the ignition switch. I havent really heard of any 00+ having ignition switch issues. With the car running wiggle the key while its in the ignition to see if you can get it to replicate the issue. Test the alternator, and double check all the grounds, and the positive connection.
