My 1999 TL Got New Tranny Today
Well today my 1999 TL got its second transmission. The car had 125K miles on it so I was not expecting much from Acura but they did pretty good by me in my opinion. They split the cost on a new tranny 50/50 my cost before tax was $1300 and I got a 3yr 36K mile warranty. I am thinking that is a decent deal but would welcome opinions.
One question I do have is should I see a shiny new tranny under the hood because I do not. While I can tell it was replaced the housing does not look new. When they say a new tranny is that internal and not visible?
Also there is some visible oil underneath, nothing dripping but you can see the stain from the oil. Should I take it back and have them check it out. BTW, car drives great, very smooth.

I think they just rebuild them..
If you have ANY concerns, I would get it checked out..

yep- any concerns get it checked
They recycle the cases when dead trans come into the rebuilder shop
New internals and some used internals are installed and away it goes
Not much concern for painting it shiny is given- just make it work inside!

$1300 is a great deal given that the car was beyond both the 109,000 mile and the 7 year 9 month limits of the extended warranty.
The previous owner of my 1999 TL paid $3,200 for a new transmission and that was over two years ago.

you can ask them to clean it up a bit, but was there a problem with your previous transmission? afaik the 99 has the 4-speed which does not exhibit the same problems as the 00-03 5-speed

FWIW, the original transmission in my 1999 TL made it to 173,000 miles.

Like the title said, my car is in Acura shop now and on the way for a 3rd transmission. The 2nd has been replaced last year at 105K mi, and now it has problem of a loud noise when shift from D to R. The 3rd transmission replacement will be free of charge since it's still within warranty however, the dealer offer me a warranty option for this 3rd trany, a basic 12/12K mi or $225+tax to get 3/36K mi warranty. In both case, I have been told that there's no "brand new" transmission ever exist anymore. It will be a refurbished outside but new part inside.
So my question to you guy is it worth to paid $225+tax for an extra 2yr/24K mi warranty?

I hope this is the last trany for her, wish me a luck.

You may have many miles to go on your new transmission. Some of the 4-speed transmissions have gone past 200,000 miles. The original transmission in my 1999 TL made it to 173,000 miles.

15K at first then 30K for the rest. This is what I have been told from the service mgr when I picked up my car yesterday. And by the way, the new trany seems very smooth on all gear so far...
