I have recently bought a 2002 TL and while recently filling my tank up (from empty;with gas-refill light on). I realized that it only takes a little over 14 gal. of gas. The owners manual says that it should take 17.1 gal. Is this an issue I should take to the dealer? Any idea on what the problem is?

But even if the gas stops pumping at 14. That means its only using 11 gal. and 3 gal. are reserved vs. the car filling up at 17 and having the 3 gallons on reserve

 

How much gas fills your tank varies. Check you mpg regularly.
If it happens constantly then you might have an issue.
