Motor Mounts

How can u tell which motor mounts are bad. When I give my car sudden gas from a stop u can feel and hear the motor moving a good amount where u know it needs new motor mounts. This also screws up your reaction time from a dead stop, because it takes a split second longer for the motor to move then take off.

If its your front mount, you will hear a "clunk" sound from your engine hitting the firewall as you accelerate from a dead stop. The other mounts can be visually inspected for major cracks and chunks of rubber missing.

YES! Thats what I was looking for......... the word CLUNK. Thats exactly what it does. So what motor mount is it......guide me please. And how much you think it would be if i got one from an auto parts store. I can probably install it. I got a motor lift to raise it.

there is no way the motor moves enuf to hit the firewall. Even with no front mount it wouldnt hit the firewall

Most likely its the front and passenger side mounts (most common to fail)
You cant buy them in a parts store (to my knowledge)
you can get them here and should be able to get both for under 200 totalhttp://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/acura/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp.

they are easy to replace

I know, but that is what it sounds like. An online parts store is the best place to get one, like the one Fsttyms posted.

open your hood have someone or you stand in fron of the car while you or someone holds the brake and presses the gas. you will be able to see wich of the 2 (fron / passenger) are bad. u can see the drivers side one if u look hard enough.

this is what i payed for mine to be fixed from a local mechanic.
parts-- front $115 and right $60
labor--$80
$255 for all of it.

last week i had my dealer change my motor/tranny mount while the changed my tranny and all they charged me was for the prart ($28) but i still hear a lil rattling from that area when i start the car.

i'll be changing my front mount soon. the clunking is very annoying and not good for your car really either. I didn't know the rear mount generally doesn't go bad. that is reassuring. I will just change the front and leave the side mount unless it becomes necessary to change that one too.

How much engine movement?

I just got my front and side engine mounts replaced on a 2000 TL. The parts were $120 and $60. Labor around $165, total around $340 from a Honda dealer.

I noticed that when I do the revving up test, i.e. someone sitting in the car and revving up the engine, the engine still moves up and down a little bit, about a centimeter. Prior to that, it was moving up and down more than an inch.

Is this movement normal? Or should the engine not move at all..

anybody know if I need to replace my engine mount?

I'm worried b/c when i turn off my car, the engine will shake noticeably for a second. I can feel it shake the car.

And while the car is at idle, my car will shake abit too. Its a small shake but damn i'm worried as hell.

I have 2 more months before my warranty expires and I hope they don't blame it on my coilovers and not cover me under warranty.

Lowering it has nothing to do with the motor mounts. Inspect them to see if they are bad? If under warranty yet get them replaced

thanks for all the replies .... I've just been too busy to go to the dealership and ask them for a checkup.

I'll go there this month and I'll let you guys know.

Also, I notice the car vibrates a little harder when i put the gear into reverse while holdind down the brakes.

I assume this is normal as well right?

I think I'm just paranoid after reading some of these posts about engine mounts failing.
