Moister in healight unit

Hey guys. I have a 2003 TL-S and I can see that in both of my headlights there is moister. On hot days I can see it condensing on the inside of the cover. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks.

There is a leak in the butyl sealant which seals the outer lens to the headlight body. You will need to remove the headlights by first removing the bumper. Let them dry out by simply opening the rear cap, remove all the bulbs and let it dry out in the sun. Then you need to re-seal them with a high quality automotive silicone. Before installing the bulbs, wipe them good with a clean alcohol-soaked towel and don't touch the glass.

check that the bulbs are all in the locked correctly, if its not that then the seals could of gone bad, which you have to take apart the light to fix. you could try puting some of those pockets that are made to absorb moisture, that has worked it the past

welcome to the forum
here is the master diy list https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/new-official-2nd-gen-tl-diy-thread-706083/

you have a combination problem--that moisture drips out a hole on the bottem of the housing- right onto the ballast- which gets inside and eventually fries the circuitry
Often kills the capacitor/ignitor unit too
One low beam light wont stay on,,,has strange light off-on problems
dealer will tell you $1200!!!
We send you to www.hidextra.com and get the $59 replacement kit
new ballast, ignitors, and bulbs for both sides

for the lens leak- fix as described above, or cheapie seal it externally with silicone seal, and avoid high pressure water car washes!!

Entire replacement housing are available online in a `blacked out` or chrome

The leak is rarely leaked by the butyl sealant seal or from the back bulb seal, at least in my case. Take a close look at it, there is no chance the leak was from the butyl sealant seal. I bet you, noone has ever found a leak in butyl seal except just doing a double seal to make sure. I did and didnt fix the problem; i double seal the back cap, didn't fix problem. I made a gutter to block water from draining by the peek hole, didn't fix the problem.

In most cases, the leaks come from the bottom ring seal, between the headlight housing and the ballast where you screw them together; problem comes from the ballast heat that shinks, dries, and cracks up the seal, creating a leakage. The seal itself is like a sponge, obsorbs water, and heat from ballast sends moisture to the headlight easily.

The original seal was just like soft skooshy sponge foam. Hopefully, the new seal from dealer is more heat and water resistant. Fix it as soon as you can before getting into major problems.

One more note, tightening the housing and ballast screws will not tight up the seal because the housing surrounding does not allow the ballast to go down further. I did a little trimming on the housing, so tighting on the screws will make it tighter on the seal.

replacing your now water soaked ballast and ignitor system with a kit from hidextra.com will solve the upcoming light failure issue
and its parts are waterproofed!

for the leak:
some replace the entire housing- ebay for new in chrome or blacked out inside
others use our `diy section` method with an oven and warming the parts- seperate-clean-glue-cure in oven
or the ultimate cheapie fix- a tube of silicone seal
