Malfunction Indicator Lamp????? Help!!
Malfunction Indicator Lamp????? Help!!
Can anyone help???? I was at a concert last week and I had my doors and music on while listening to music and my battery died, so I jumped the car and since then my Malfunction Indicator Lamp has been on and Im trying to get it off.
I read in the owners manuel that the light comes one when it singals a problem but it doesnt say how to reset it, the book also says that it wont go off right away and that it will take up to 3 trips for the light to off off. I have driven way more than 3 trips and the light is still on, It wasnever one before that and the car runs great. So I really didnt want to bring it in on service for that reason.
Has anyone ever had this issue? The yellow light on the dash that looks like a engie and says "check" on it. I wanted to know if their is a way to reset it instead of bring it in for service, any help is appricate it. Thank You

However, you should go to AutoZone and read what code is signaling the lamp before resetting.
CEL-ck engine light- is a general warning light to get you to look under the hood
can mean anything
Battery could be weak if over 3 years old and dies while in use
When you jumped the car and drove home.. with alternator working overtime to recharge dead battery- that could trigger a code, false or real..often false when battery low as sensors not getting correct voltage fool everything
its free at parts stores to come out with a code reader- it plugs in behind a panel between the seat heat switches-- behind shifter
note- when battery is dead like this- its much better for the car if you can recharge battery with a machine to get it mostly full- then let the alternator do the remainder
Alternator not made to recharge from dead- just replaces whats being used at any moment~
after you give us the codes- or google them - you can clear the light by pulling the CLOCK fuse as said above- its the secret backup power for the ecu=engine control unit.
about a minute is good then reinsert , start car and drive normally
the car will do a series of self test and system reboot
a few days later get the codes ckd again to assure they are gone-means they were false from low voltage
the one about `a few days to clear CEL` is usually if you dont tighten the gas cap the required 3 clicks or more
thats a torque spring in the cap so you know its at right amount of tight
Left loose or off.. even for a few blocks.. and car stumbles so you put cap back on
It can take days for the system to clear and reset
