Almost certainly, traction control relies on that sensor too.

How much is actually left in the tank when it lights? Fill up & subtract from capacity. Need to determine if it's the gauge or light-

the gas tank holds 17.3 gallons of which ~16.7 are useable-
thats the most I ever put in to the first click of the fuel nozzle shutoff.

The Low fuel light comes on with approx 3 gallons remaining- to ensure you have 50 miles in which to find a gas station

Dont run it dry- really hard on the fuel injection system

Quit worrying about the fuel light and get the safety items working correctly first. The light may be your needle isnt calibrated correctly, or a faulty sending unit in the tank.

Sounds like a job for 16 ounces of seafoam liquid in 1/2 also known as 8 gallons of gas
Might free up a sticky sendor unit and will make the car run better

actually---- Seafoam in its spray can version, `Deep Creep` would be excellent penetrating oil to remove stuck tie rod end nuts!

For the gas tank, it will clean up any crud in the tank and sender unit hopefully- then onto the spider and injectors, restoring their fine mist spray pattern for max combustion

OP is just not used to a car that gives so much appearent advance warning- but you do NOT want to run the TL dry on gas- major bummer for the injection system

I know you said running the TL dry on gas is bad, but why? And is that for all cars or just the TL?

Fuel Injected cars really hate to be run dry- the electric hi pressure fuel pump is sensative and uses fuel to cool itself, and the crud in the bottem of the tank - the fuel pickup normally floats above all the settled crud (the TL has a sock over the pickup- not all cars do)
then the fuel filter and injectors can get plugged,, and other bad things

Carb'd cars can suffer plugged fuel filter, fuel jets in the carb and stalling-stumbling problems when run dry- many have a mechanical suction pump which needs gas to use as lube and coolant for itself

Thats why the TL has a warning light that gives you about 50 miles to gas up!!
You can find a station in that range,,,,
or learn to read the `Next Gas 250 Miles` -`Welcome to Death Valley!` signs sooner

Note: that sock on the fuel pickup is the only fuel filter on the TL!!

We dont have a large metal can mounted anywhere we can just change every few years.
To me it makes sense to use a quality brand of gas tank fuel system cleaner to prevent expensive problems later.
