Loud noise from tranny

I had a slight transimission oil leak and was referred by my mechanic to get lucas oil to stop the leak. I purchase lucas oil and put some in the tranny and now my car is making loud reving noise when go above 30mph. Did I just destroy my tranny by pouring this lubricant in ?

Did you put lucas *engine* oil in it, or the transmission oil SAE weight equivalent?

that changed the `line pressure` and makes it harder to shift
ck wikipedia

you need to do a full 12 qt `3x3` fluid change to get all the lucas out!!
or the engine running method `hot swap`

I would make the mechanic do it for free---since they said to use lucas--a major no-no in a TL trans

I am kind of at a cross because i have read that people have done this tranny flush and their tranny then went bad. I have been VERY LUCKY that I have gone 154k miles on the original tranny with no problems until now. I am wonder can I just leave the Lucas oil in since it was only a small amount and let it burn through the system.

Any help would be appreciated.

how exactly do you think it burns thru the system???
its in there until you wash a bunch of fluid thru to get it out and fresh fluid in

at 154 - yes you did well on that trans

while any atf leak is bad news on the TL, its possible a simple leak on the jet kit line or something like that- something easy to fix,,not internal death is going on

When you say loud revving noise above 30mph--is the rpm guage actually going way up?
or it stays normal but now there is a noise?

I would still get the old fluid out--how many miles were on that fluid?
were you on a regular atf change program- every few years or 30-60kmiles,,ever?

the stories you read on failure after fluid change at high miles is usually one never changed before and barely hanging on anyway--so they tried fluid in desperation
OR
a machine powered flush was done --often with dextron3 fluid
which is really really bad for our trans--the book requires a 3x3 full fluid change if ANY was added,,so lucas could fall in same catagory
you thickened a fluid that needs to be thin

When clutches are going it is suggested by acura techs on here: let the car warm up 1-2 minutes then shift from P
that time allows the rpm to come down and fluids warm slightly, which reduces line pressure and allows engagement

I figure like any oil it makes its way out the system eventually, Like brake fluid, antifreeze, oil etc...

I never did ah tranny drain and was not recommended by acura dealer to do so. (Ignorant me for not checking the manual or here prior) so basically the 154k is on the original tranny fluid.

The RPMN does not go up but the cars howlls as if the RPM is at 5-6k

ahhhh--yeah no ummm brake fluid stays in the system and only moves slightly as you use the brakes then returns- its a very limited motion- does not circulate
but is very hygroscopic- which is the reason we change it,,and age/heat/abuse all weaken the fluid
BUT NEVER should brake fluid evaporate or otherwise disappear from the car
it does lower in res as brakes get low and more fluid fills in the caliper piston as its pushed farther out

engine oil does get used slightly as part of internal combustion pressures

anti freeze/coolant- replaced on age/condition 5 years, but never should it leak or get low--if it gets low stop driving and find the leak!!
If the TL ever runs more than 1-2 lines below half on temp guage- stop and find the problem asap

now that you understand, please go buy 9, or better 12 qts of the new honda dw-1 atf
honda has it 2 bucks cheaper than acura for exact same stuff
get all that lucas out--
talk to your mechanic about them doing it free,, since it was their mistake to suggest this product in a TL trans
hopefully you can rinse it all thru and regain some trans operation for a while
That long and never changed you are skating on thin ice

And the leak- as said before- find that sucker!!! its location will help us tell you if the prob is serious or diy/trans shop for line replacement..oring..

Car Details: 2002 TL-S, 166K miles, not sure if original transmission or not.

Background: About 2 weeks the car started to sound louder. Similar symptoms as original poster. Engine oil change was due so I got it done, thinking that would help. However, it did not. When the car is parked and I rev the engine to higher rpms, it sounds fine. However, when I drive over 30 mph it gets loud. I have never done transmission oil change. Don't know if it was ever done.

What do you guys think and recommend? Does anyone know if 02 TLS has an ATF filter?
