Loss of Power, Intermittent shudder

Hello,

I am posting this because with every search i run i find nothing that resembles my own issue.

I own a 01' Nbp acura tl, and it has been shuddering for the past 6 months. I ran the 3x3transmission fluid change quite some time ago with no change. I checked the spark plugs, changed the oil, ran a different brand of gas, replaced the brakes, and had the tires aligned. Nothing is fixing the shudder.

It seems to shudder under load in 2,3,4th gear. It tends to shudder quite a bit more frequently when driving up an incline. It does NOT shudder during the shift, only while in gear. It doesn't shudder under idle.

The reason I am making this thread is that yesterday something quite scary and strange happened to me while driving it. I was turning a corner, accelerated moderately hard and lost all power. Is was like the engine was towing 8,000 lbs and just couldn't move forward.

I dropped it into neutral, killed the engine, and restarted it. It started running fine again, at the next stoplight i tried accelerating hard again. The same thing happened. I then noticed when the engine lost power the TCS and CEL lit up. I turned it off, and back on and it worked once more. This happened 4 times yesterday. After the fourth time i could not reproduce the problem.

I have unplugged all electrical lines between the air filter and manifold. When i unplugged one i reproduced the tcs, CEL, but could not reproduce the loss of power. The car drove harder, shifting later and more difficultly, but no loss of power.

I am torn as to wether it is a MAF sensor problem or a fuel pump failing. And assistance would be much appreciated.

~Josh

Sounds like your transmission is lagging. Have you tried cleaning the solenoids? Cleaning or replacing the pressure switches? There's a great diy write up on the 3g side for those switches. I think yours also has an external filter. Check on that.

What transmission are you on sir?

Im on my second transmission. Supposedly it is the transmission with the repaired seals on 2nd and 3rd. It currently has 46,000 miles on the transmission.

See if you could get a coder reader and see what the code is if it has anything to do with engine or transmission.

^ That should be done first. Warning lights are clues to what's really going on

I will check out the CEL post the issue yesterday later tonight.

However, I have had a random CEL for the past 2 years, it constantly reads Cat efficiency below threshold. It comes on for 3 months, stays off for 9 months, etc. It always reads the same. I took it to a dealer and they said my Cat is failing. I do not believe it is associated with the shudder.

Hopefully the read tonight will pinpoint the issue, but the shudder has been happening without an associated CEL for quite some time.

So the codes it threw are as such

p1519 Idle air control valve circuit

and

p0122 throttle/pedal position sensor/switch A circuit low input

I do think these two are associated with the three different clips I unclipped and drove around the block with. I dont know if this is all related, but the TL was shuddering on every drive prior to unclipping those three clips and clipping them back in, and now it is not shuddering. The same results come from unplugging the battery and plugging it back in.

I am pulling my hair out right now, having no idea where to attempt to fix next.

Thinking on cleaning the solenoids next.
