Looking at a 1999 Acura TL - What to look for?

Hello everyone -

I'm looking for a new car and decided I want a 2nd gen Acura TL 3.2. What should I be looking for when I test drive and look at used car lots? Time is of the essences, I'd like to decide on a car by tomorrow.

Thanks!!!

Truthfully I would see if the car can be professionally inspected.

Obviously go and drive the car and listen for any noises that don't sound normal. Look under the car for any fluid leaks, Go through all the gears to make sure it shifts ok. Check that everything functions properly, sunroof, radio, cruise, rear defroster........

Thanks for the advice. I heard the trannys are kinda weak. Is this true? I will definetly be getting an auto, as my gf needs to drive it.

Are there any recurring issues I should look for? Rust in certain spots? Any expensive repairs that are common?

Also, how hard is it to put navigation into non-nav TLs?

Thanks, I know I have a lot of questions. I promise to make up for it when I buy one!!

transmission faliure is not that uncommon...just ready the tranny faliure sticky or do a search.. seems like the 99 tl didn't have tranny problems...just 00 +. I think...
the tl only cames in auto...
no recurring problems that I know of...acura makes a pretty good product I have to say...built very well.

I've read a bunch of threads about people putting navs into non nav tl...
do a search .
good luck

You will definitely be getting an auto, alright.

The transmission as a whole is not weak. There are aspects about it which, put gently, could have been better thought out in the beginning by Honda. They are covered by 7 year 100k mile warranties as long as you don't buy a car with a salvage title.

It's a bitch to put navigation in a non-nav car. Best look for one with nav to start with, they aren't too hard to find it seems.

Acura acknowledges this and thus offers a 7yr 100K mile warranty on the tranny..not sure what yr that extended warranty applies too.

We pick it up tomorrow. 2000 TL it's pearl white with gold trim and a spoiler, wood grain trim, 71k miles, single disk changer. Purchased for $13k from a dealership with a 3 month warranty. Is this a decent price?
