Once the OEM setup starts going bad, your best bet is the aftermarket replacement "HID" kits.

Why not just look for some on ebay it's not too expensive plus oem hid looks better than those aftermarket ones.

led/hid headlight conversion kits question

03 acura tl. Headlight issues again. I do not want to spend all this money on this old car.
Are the conversion kits a good alternative? Are they a simple diy or should i let install place doit?

oem stuff sucks especiialy at its age now
modern technology is under 100 bucks for a full both sides setup of HID ballast ignitor and bulbs
get 35 watt ballast and 5000k color bulbs

how do you figure oe looks better than aftermarket? in color?- stock was 4300 so 5000 is slightly more blue for better lane marking highlighting

10+ years in use= the OE bulbs have faded to lower number and lost lumens/brightness

Most need to reseal lens to housing if moisture leaking -two ways to do that, or buy aftermarket housings online and not hassle with it
Go wild and install good high beam bulbs in a halogen or xenon gas type
while its all apart

Our low beans can NOT use those- they are 12 volt systems
while the HID amps up to 20,000 volts to ignite its bulbs gasses!!

Note: its possible to replace the low beam bulb from behind the housing
BUT NOT able to swap out bad hid system parts without popping the nose off- its really simple -just scary the first time
the parts are under/ attached to bottom of housing

I bought after-market HIDs from HIDXtra and haven't looked back. Had one issue with them that they took care of under warranty. Would not consider replacing the OEM stuff with different OEM stuff.

You might want to search for a HID kit for D2R Headlights.
Here is a good example: Factory White D2R 5000k HID Light Conversion Kit | HIDeXtra

About the LEDs? that can be bought in most Autozones.

Like 01tl4tl said, it's scary the first time but removing the bumper is actually a piece of cake on these cars. i had my car disassembled, new HID stuff installed, and reassembled in about an hour and a half. Most of that was putting the aftermarket HID parts on the headlight assemblies.

The prob is the ballast had it replaced once with aftermarket. Hard to find part n someone who can do it cheap. So since o pla. On buying a new car in a few month id rather not pay a load of cash plus i dont have lights at all. If the kits work that what im gonna do. Thanks fellas

the problem is not just the ballast-
once it gets wet and rusty inside, it takes out the invertor(ignitor) and the bulb- which has plenty of age on it but we don't notice- without a comparison

go to HID Kits | Conversion Kits | Xenon Headlights | HIDeXtra look on main page for coupon code worth 10% or look online for one
CALL the 800 number and tell them acurazine sent you- they will find the best coupon code available for you, and drop the parts in the mail same day if call before noon Pacific time

get the standard kit for our car- their regular sized ballast and 5000K color bulbs
The cars new owner will be blown away when shown the color!!
WOW those are like new cars!

9005? You dont need that kit, that is for the High beam. You need a D2R/S kit.

D2R HID Kit | D2R Headlight Conversion | HID Extra

that guy sounds like he doesn't know the low beams come HID and its simply a parts swap NOT a conversion!!!!!!!!!

Or was he intending to upgrade your high beam for no good reason?

of course the kits work! - how many of us -who own a TL with aftermarket headlights- have told you this!!

You can clean your ballast with electrical cleaner or whatever nerds use to clean their computers. I found that out after I sold my good ballast and put an aftermarket HID kit in. Effing mclamerson.

So wait... You aren't happy with your aftermarket HID kit, and wish you didn't sell your good ballast?

Tell me more... I was just about to pull the trigger on a new aftermarket ballast kit, but you may have some interesting perspective to share...

Mike you have a problem with your ballast you just don't know about
A good ballast does not have rust growing inside so simple cleaning will help IF that were our problem

aftermarket is so much better than OE- what don't you get?
based on where you live surely you know- - they used cheapest stuff when made 15 years ago- versus modern miniaturization of parts and improved technology
along with complete epoxy like sealing of the entire innards on the new kind
Plus bulb technology is improved

Some places will not have the correct D2(?) bulb for the 03 which is different than earlier years- the housing is slightly different - inside the reflector

Was that hidextra that told you No?

IIRC (having an 01) the 03 has an added shield/hood over the bulb? and the tabs on bulb base are different?
Is that correct anyone??? and whats the solution?
