is the light bulb spring clip necessary?

Hey guys, I posted this question earlier yesterday but I got no replies and I noticed just now that I probably posted it in the wrong section of the forum. However, I was just wanting to know if the spring clip that attaches to the HID bulb when you pop off the black cover is necessary when putting all the bulbs back together? thanks.

YES
it holds the base plate tight and in position--otherwise the bulb is not mounted and wont put out the correct beam

ok thanks. so, since i couldnt find the one i lost, for the time being i made one out of a paperclip that isnt as good as the original but its good enough until i actually find one to replace it. its currently raining so i just needed something to somewhat hold it in place for now. i tested the output and your right about the beam not being correct compared to the driver side but its not too big of a difference and it will be ok for now until i can actually get the replacement.

if acura dealer doesnt have (not likely) try the auto recycler yards--big one for acura not too far from you
probably same clip fits millions of cars by now

tip- dont remove both screws, 1 holds the clip iirc (been a while since did mine)
watch for a inner cover cap too, over the bulb- same screw might hold it

new bulb goes in same way as old--external part in same direction

They dont sell them. You can ask the dealer but i havent seen the part number yet for one. Your best bet is a salvage yard.

I thought someone had tried before and was a no go with dealer--
comes with complete new housing!! Sir--shall I order you one or two?

salvage yards are now listed as `auto dismantler and recycling`
for the OP there is a place 30 minutes northeast in rancho cordova on -get this- Recycle Road, where each car make has a lot,,all lined up in a row- imports on one side of the road, american on the other, bikes at the end

If they dont have a clip sitting in a box of them behind the counter,,a walk outside will find one

yea thats where i messed up on losing the clip because when i did the first headlight i unscrewed it so thats why it came loose. what a fail. and yea 01tl youre right I called the Acura dealer and they said that since it is considered part of the ballast they do not sell it separately so id pretty much have to go buy a whole new ballast. And also, i am about to go to recycle road tomorrow and look for the clip and uprgade to some type s tails as well! so hopefully i fix everything up by tomorrow which sucks i cant do it today because everything is closed.
