Leaks In Tranny!! Help!!

I just picked up my car today from the local auto shop for a 30k major service. i was hoping for good news but the guy told me some disasterous facts. Well, i bought the car as a salvaged title, the dealer obviously played cheap and did not manage to fix everything properly, and now here is the biggest problem that is buggin me:

My transmission housing, is CRACKED, and is leaking fluid...but the guys from the shop repaired it by using some type of GLUE to fill up all the cracks in there. They told me no matter what in the future my transmission will die.

What should i do? i know that the glue won't hold on forever, should i have the cracks welded?? would that help? or do i need a completely new transmission?

The thing is, my car is salvaged, all the 100,000k warrenty is GONE. And i have no clue how much it would be to replace a brand new tranny, i hope its under $3,000. but even if it is i still don't have that much ends to get it done.

i really need some help, can anyone give me some advice on what to do? please?

....with much appreciation.

Well thats part of the problem with buying a car with a salvaged title. you never know what your4 really getting, and nothing is covered. It will need to be replaced. you can check on a used tranny (not teh best idea but cheaper) or you can get a new housing and at the same time you might want to have the shop look into rebuilding it.. trannies range in price from 2500 or so for a rebuild at some of the larger chains to 5k with install from the dealer.

damn thats too much, but lets say if i really do replace the tranny...isnt there a recall on the TL trannies? so what if that fails again? then what should i do? for right now im just riding with the old tranny with GLUE to prevent the leaking. the tranny itself is running OK, so the best i can do right now is probably get the "housing" replaced?

You have no warranty coverage since you have a salvaged title. You are SOL for any warranty items. There is no recourse. As soon as they pull the title, they'll tell you to pay up sucka.

That's the breaks of buying a car with a salvaged title.

There isnt a Recall on the tranny to replace it, there is a recall to add a part to it. There is a Warranty Extenxsion on the tranny to 100k or 7 years. You however do not qualify for the warranty extension due to the salvaged title. I guess if the glue holds keep it going as long as possible, but be prepaired to spend the money down the road if it cant stop it. Replacing eth housing isnt cheap either. Depending on where the crack is you may have to take the tranny completly aparrt at which point you might as well spend the money on a rebuld.

Get the housing welded. I don't know how big the crack is, but it shouldn't cost too much to weld it. I mean, that's the only problem, right? Seems like a pretty simple fix to me, unless there is internal damage from whatever caused the housing to crack in the first place.

the GLUE that is filled in the cracks are not scotch tapes nor any other adhesive tapes...i checked out the tranny after the car was lifted, it appeared to be some yellow type of GLUE / GEL that is filling up the crack. I hope i won't get any more leaking, nor do i want the tranny to fail and resulting in buying a new tranny, i might as well just sell the car WHICH i motherfucknhellno don't want to.

i would think that the GLUE they used will EXPAND under heat where as JB WELD adheres like a welded patch job. i'd go back or call them and ask about this glue they used and also if they topped off the tranny

Also, the guy from the shop told me to watch out for leaks, he told me every couple days or so i should check my garage for leaking spots...but what should i look out for? will the liquid turn out to be clear? white? yellow? black?? i know the tranny is towards the left front wheel, but what color should those "LEAKS" be?? i've seen couple leaks from near the RIGHT front wheel, and what is THAT?

Transmission fluid has a purplish color. But depending on how old it is, it could be dark/black.

anything on the ground that is not clear like water is not good, green is coolant, light brown to black is engine oil, redish purple to dark blood red is tranny, powersteering fluid new is like a vanilla color but turns tan after some use.
