Keep or Sell

So six weeks after buying my TL, the tranny blew at 121,000.
I'm having it rebuilt and the warranty is only 12/12,000.

Is it worth keeping beyond a year or should I get rid of it?

Thanks.

I should have stated my concern better.
Is this transmission so flawed, that even with a decent rebuild, it will blow again prematurely?

What's your budget if you are to buy a new vehicle?

Not trying to be a smartass - well, I guess I was .

My point was that there are a lot of variables to apply to a question like that and a lot of opinions so you'd probably get a "yes" either way.

What year is your TL? How much did you pay? How much is the tranny rebuild? Has the timing belt been done? Do you like the car? Is it in otherwise decent condition? What would you be considering to replace it and, as Yumcha already queried, how much would you be looking to spend?

I think these questions need to be answered in order to give you a thoughtful response.

Depends on how good the rebuild is and whether you want higher monthly payments for a new car?

That's not a great warranty, if you ask me...Mine was replaced under GOOD WILL from Acura..Payed 10% of $5000 bill and got a 3yr/36k mile warranty...

I just got my 2001 TL back yesterday after a tranny rebuild. It cost 3,400 and was worth every penny. Acuras are better cars and the engines alone make them worth fixing the tranny. Mine lasted 223K before it went out. My opinion...rebuild it and then take care of it with routine maintenence.

You could've gotten a 06-07 Accord trans and no problems. Or m/t swap but only if you got enough to spend

I know you didn't pay that much, but I'm sure if I had dropped 5k+ I could have gotten a better warrantee. But that is close to the asking price of the car! Acura said tough sh*t, BTW.
I like the car, but do not trust the transmission now.
I hope to pay it down to what it is worth in a year's time and maybe sell it then. However, if the tranny will last another 100K, I may consider holding onto it longer.
If not for this issue, I'd definitely keep it until the wheels fell off.
I will be changing the fluid every 12 months or 15k.

David, you seem to be one of the exceptions tranny wise.

AcraAdi93, I looked into the 06-07 auto trannies and they don't seem to be that big of an improvement over ours when it comes to longevity.

M/t swap is the other way to go if you want the best out of your TL
