It is awfully good of you to be cool about it. Most would at least start off being mad or upset or angry or all three. But you're right. Once it has happened there is nothing to do to make it like it didn't happen. You just have to fix it. I am sure it will get repaired and come out looking great.

Hey man, you're just lucky that shit happened in broad daylight.....as it's hard to make that much noise and commotion without being noticed. At least it wasn't a drive by hit and run.

The damaged area doesn't appear all that bad. Maybe you could get a couple of estimates and have his insurance company cut you a check, then look for a used bumper and some newer tail lamps. Have a body shop straighten the quarter panel and paint after you replace the easy stuff yourself. Pocket the change and do some mods or save up for a new tranny !

And of course....his vehicle has the least amount of damage. I bet he could have swiped 3 more cars and his cherokee would be the same.

It happened when i wasn't home and didn't even notice it cuz i was driving another car coming from the opposite direction just pull into the driveway, until like hours later my friend drove by and ring my door.. then i was like WTF..

My neighbor saw it.. and he wrote down the license place of that Jeep and also spoke to the driver. Guy that hit me also left a note on both cars, he live just blocks away within the same neighborhood.

Btw, got an estimate from a shop yesterday.. $5k+, I think they might total it.. lets see what their adjuster say, atleast i got something to compare to, incase their adjuster lowball, which am sure they will, but by how much..!!??

Yeah, adjusters will try to get away with the minimum amount to settle the claim. They will normally take into account the age, mileage and overall condition of the damaged car. Then they will try to find out what you owe on the car and it's wholesale value. The lowbook will be less than $5000, no doubt about it !

Tell them that you want the car either fully repaired or replaced with another of equal value. Negotiate a cash settlement which you feel comfortable with and sub the work out yourself. My guess is that $2000 would fix it.

Sometimes ya gotta light a fire under their butt, don't let them stall ya. In the meantime, get some estimates on repairing the damage, along with a wholesale value on the car assuming the condition prior to the accident. If they total it due to age and costs to repair, chances are they will cut ya a check to settle the claim. But, you should have the opportunity to get the car back, if desired.

So am opt to keep my car.. they gona cut me a check.. so now looking for a shop to do the repair.. i got the light already, haven't find bumper with the same paint yet.

if too much to fix,.. i might just sell it as is, since the title will be 'salvage' now and it got 230K on it.. and this is the first accident.. got the car new back then.

So, not that it's any of my business.....but what was the "totaled" value that they are going to pay you ? Hopefully, you made out ok !!!!

If ya find a good deal on a used bumper, grab it. When the bodyshop repairs the rear quarter panel, they can paint the bumper at the same time. Compare a couple of estimates on the repairs. The car may still be worth more to you than trying to sell it. But, things like the new car fever and a potential tranny itch may influence your decision towards a new ride.

I am more than satisfy with the totaled value received for the damage, I kept the car and had it fix.. not totally perfect like original but I'm happy with it. Now just gotta go thru process getting my title change to 'Salvage'.

Here is the repaired, just got it back today.

Hey man, glad it all worked out to your benefit. I'm sure it was a total pain in the butt going through the incident and the hassle with the ins. co., but now ya have a few extra bucks to help keep the 'ol gal running and avoid a car payment. Car looks good !!!
