Intermittent No Start/Stalling

Hello everyone. I have a 2002 TL Type S that has recently started giving me some issues. It does not start sometimes and it has stalled on me four times in the last month. It's a bit strange because it is very random and the car runs great when after it starts and there is no CEL.

I have noticed that when the car does not start that the shifter will not unlock and I cannot move it. I used to be able to bypass it and set it in neutral and be able to start it that way but it no longer works. The car will crank but will not start when this happens. Once I can move the shifter out of the Park position I know I am able to start the vehicle.

Can anybody give me some tips on where to start on this? I have replaced the ignition switch after finding out it had a high failure rate, but it did not help. I'm currently thinking it is the crank position sensor, but have not had a chance to test it out. Also, I don't think the ckp sensor would prevent the shifter from unlocking. I don't want to replace the sensor if it is not needed as I see that the timing cover and harmonic balancer have to come off to replace. It's hard for me to diagnose as it seems to do it at the worst times where I do not have access to any tools or have to be somewhere soon. Any tips and ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I already replace the brake switch a few months ago after noticing that the brake lights were not coming on and where sticking. The lights seem to be coming on all the time but, I still have intermittent issues with the shifter not wanting to unlock and move out of park. I have also adjusted the gearshift selector cable that goes from the transmission to the shifter. I was having issues with the the car not responding to the manual shifting mode because it was a little bit off. I adjusted it and it works properly now, all the lights turn on with the corresponding position of the shifter. I did notice that the D5 light does not come on when selected when the vehicle is off, but all the others do. The car will not crank at all when I move it to any other position than Park or Neutral so I know that it working properly.
