intermittent keyless remote failure

I have a 2003 Acura TL. The keyless remotes (both of them) work intermittently. When I walk up to the car and press the unlock button it only works about half the time. I can always see the LED on the remote light up and again this is the same for both remotes (which makes me think the problem is "in" the car). All functions (Lock, unlock and trunk release) work intermittently.

Is there a workaround for this problem or do I need to replace something. If I do need to replace something, what part number do I need and is the replacement a DIY kind of thing or do I need the dealer to do it?

Batteries could be low and just strong enough to light that tiny led. Try changing one of the batteries and see if it helps. If so then buy a battery for the second one.

Unhappy I asked an expert

I paid for an expert to answer this question on justanswer.com and this is what he said:

"If the locks both work using the inside switch .Then the multiplex unit in the passenger fuse box is most likely the problem. We see this once and a while on these. The part number is 38850-S0K-A11. It cost's about $370.00. This is not that easy to replace. If you have experience in electrical work you can do it. If not you might want to have it done by a shop."

this isn't really great news for me. looks like i better get used to opening the door with my key every once in awhile.
