Intermittant starting problems

Hello, i am looking for someone who could help me with a problem. Randomly my 99 TL won't start, and its been getting more and more frequent. When it is acting up, the immobilizer key light on the instrument panel doesnt even come on. No on then off and no blinking. Just no acknowledgement the key is even in. As like the other posts I've looked at the starter will crank but doesn't turn the fuel on to start. I have the factory service manual for the car and do car audio and other vehicle electrical work for a living. There is no aftermarket alarm or remote start installed that could be messing with it, so it definitely isn't reading two keys. I replaced the Immobilizer receiving unit last week and the problem continues. Any information or help would be extremely appreciated. Like i said before, i have been completely unable to find any documentation on this problem when the light wont turn on at all, only people with the same end result but a blinking immobilizer light. Any help would be awesome

It is very likely that you have a bad ignition switch. It's a common problem on the 99's. There was even a recall on them where Acura would replace them for free ONCE. It's not uncommon for them to fail again though.

My next question is if it is the ignition switch, wouldn't other things act up not just the immobilizer circuit?

I think I read your post too fast. So everything else works fine? If you wiggle your key lightly back and forth while the car is running does it seem to stall and start back up?

I finally got a chance to really get into my car with my factory service manual and figured out the problem. The PGM FI main relay was sticking closed, not sending power to the Immoblizer receiving unit, and two feeds into the PCM, that turn on the fuel pump and the immobilzer circuit. Yeah got it fixed finally

Used to see this happen on a 97 RL. If I put the key in to quickly it wouldn't let me turn the motor over.

If I took the key out and put her in slowly, no troubles.

Sort of, the PGM FI main relay is a double pole double throw, as well as kick the fuel pump on, it supplies power to the Immobilizer circuit of the PCM. It has the yellow/black output from the relay that is split into three 12 volt outputs, One to the Immobilizer ring around you ignition switch and two that go to pins b1 and b9 of the Powertrain control module witch supply power to the entire immobilizer circuit, the ring, the light on the dash, and the part of the PCM that reads the key, and kicks the fuel pump on. Thats why you get crank with no fire up. It took a while troubleshooting and testing. I hope this helps anyone else having this problem as it was extremely annoying and frustrating to me.

Bump for this thread.

My 02 TL-S is starting to have start up problems as well. Mainly cold starts in the morning, it takes about 1.5-2 seconds to turn over.
Its at about 85k miles now, so is the battery nearing the end? Or are there other things I can check.

My 99 3.2tl is doing the same thing randomly it will just crank and won't start it started at the same time my ignition switch went bad so I hope the switch was the problem but it continued with this problem. I'll replace relay and hope that fixes it.

Glad you found it- probably saved yourself a pile of $ troubleshooting it yourself. Thanks for sharing the fix.

Forgot I even posted in this thread...

I'll share my fix too. It was my plugs. New plugs and it starts strong now.
