injector pintle caps & misfire
I've got a 2000 tl that's been giving me hell lately. It has 138k miles on it, and I THOUGHT I was doing a much needed tune up on it. Here's what I've done so far:
- I changed the plugs (old owner had bosch in there) - NGK IX plugs
- Replaced valve cover gaskets, cleaned carbon from intake/egr
- Used seafoam spray in throttle body, replaced intake filter
After I did those things, I got my first check engine/tcs light..."multiple cylinder misfire". Found on the forums that mis-handling the coils will damage them, so I went ahead and replaced ALL 6 coils (Import Direct from Oreilly's). Reset the light, light came back on:
--started with cyl 1,4 misfire, and now it's 1,2,4,5 misfire codes
I ran 1 can of seafoam in the tank during the week until i got around to removing and cleaning the injectors this weekend. WELL...I pull out all of the injectors and notice that 3 out of the 6 have broken pintle caps on the ends. 1 cap was completely broken off, another broke off behind the o-ring leaving both caps and o-rings sitting in the plenum. I then notice that 2 more have cracks, but are still attached. I've never seen caps like these, that're built onto the injector...I've only seen the caps that are removable.
Question is: will not having them, or if they're cracked, be causing my misfire codes?
