Infamous Battery Drain..

Hey everyone,

I am having the infamous battery drain on my TL. I just recently got the vehicle about a month ago.

To give you a little bit of history, it just started two weeks ago.
When we came back from vacation and the car sat for 4 days, my TL was completely dead but interior lights were on when opened the door but were dim.

I thought for sure this was the bluetooth module draining the battery. I disconnected the HFL and removed it completely. I also noticed when I removed the HFL that the module was reallly HOT! I had the battery charged at Autozone and hooked it back up and it was good to go for a couple of days until yesterday morning it was dead in the morning. I had the battery charged again and it worked fine.

This morning I got in the car and noticed it was kinda slow to start up like the battery was draining again.

I am kinda at a crossroads bc I am thinking maybe the battery just needs to be replaced or something else is draining it. Any thoughts, I just hope it is not something bigger.

Appreciate the feedback guys

Gus

check the battery with a multimeter.

when the car is off, the battery should give off 12v.
if less than 12v, your battery is no good and a new one is needed.

the infamous battery drain is the HFL.
that does not mean that other things are not bad...you'll just need to check them.

we, the internet, cannot check them for you.

^its okay, you'll get the same answers here too.

you'll need to figure out where the draw is coming from.
or if your battery is low.

moving it to another section wont magically solve your problems.

oh really it wont???.. no one on here has a magic wand?...hmm... LOL

I know that, I just want to correctly place my thread in where it belongs...if it doesnt matter then there is no need to have specific generation groups... am i right?

but thanks for the help thus far!

^well, the HFL parasitic loss is pretty well documented.

if one were trying to find a thread on it or battery drain, they wouldnt have to look far...as you found the information yourself!

this would be the 1000000000000000000000000 thread on it.

i digress.

Find out if your battery is good, by taking it to autozone or the like to have it tested.
or you can do it on your own with a multimeter by seeing if it holds 12volts when the car is off.
this is the first thing I would check..

battery has already been checked and told me it is a good battery...but in my eyes could have some dead cells there...

thats where the confusion is. I could take your advice and check what the draw is from the battery as well.

I dont mind buying another battery just hate for it to happen again if i can prevent it on the new one.

^if you buy a new battery; it will come with a warranty.
if it drains over night, take the new battery back!!!

the sears diehard platinum series is pretty good.
I bought a battery from walmart. and its been strong for 2 years now.

the acura oem batteries suck.

So I just bought a new battery. HFL has been disconnected already.

I am curious to see what the result will be in the morning when I start it up.

When I removed the HFL it was working fine but extremely hot.

Anything else I should be checking if this new battery doesn't work?

it sounds like a battery issue.

if it started right up with the new battery; I'm pretty sure you got it!

I hope so but the battery I just replaced had got a full charge from autozone and they indicated it was a good battery so I'm a little hesitant to celebrating right now.

Just hope the new one corrects the issue.

One thing I do notice is after I removed my HfL..when I go to info on my dash and select Hands Free Link it says booting up. Is this normal to say even though I removed the module?

Ok so I woke up this morning, started the car and it started right up. No issues at all.
So for now it looks like my issue is resolved.

I even stopped for gas and everything is fully powered.

My question is, how can my old battery be draining if Autozone indicates its a good battery and is charged.

Was it on its way out?

Its possible. I just replaced a battery that had false hfl symptoms. It was just draining. Couldn't keep its charge. Still showed good.

Replaced battery, no issues since.
