IACV, Valve Adjustments
I own a 03 TL-S, I bought the idle air control valve because my RPM'S is flunctuating btw 2-3 thousand RPM'S, my mechanic installed it did a terrific job by cleaning everything out. drove for about a week and it went back to the problem
. So i took it to the dealership and they said that they cleaned the air pocket from the line the goes to the IACV, and it still does it. What can I do? What is possibly the problem?
And they also said that I need a valve adjustments because that car is misfiring , which I feel sometimes and I do have the check engine light on
, I just did the tranny flush and they said I also need a coolant flush!!
We these problems that I have would it take care of the IACV problem that I have !! For the valve adj. and the coolant flush everything will come out close to $800. I'm trying to sell the car but I don't want to leave the next owner with these problems !!! But I feel that if they do these things that it needs it wont take care the RPM'S !! Would appreciate some of your knowledge and intake !!

Just go buy a new idle air control valve. Obviously trying to clean it isn't working. And go find an independent shop to do the valve adjustment. Definitely cheaper than the dealer
Is there a check engine light? Did they actually replace the iacv or clean it. Im not sure what the dealer cleaned but im assuming its the IACV they were talking about because there is no line that goes to the iacv. One last thing fluctuating RPM could be is a vacuum leak
I knew they were bullshitting me !! Yes I have a check engine light on and they told me that the car is misfiring !! They said that there 2 cylinders that r not firing at the same time , thats is why there are saying that I need a valve adjustment , I'm thinking on buying the spark plugs and I have my mechanic do the adjusting and to clear the check engine light on !!
And were is the vaccum leak just to have and idea if i could do it myself !! ?

Please stop using !!! at the end of each sentence. That's like using all CAPS. We understand your frustration and can help you. I can see you are not a car savvy person, no offense. In your case I'd go to autozone and have them run the codes for you and report them to us and we'll tell you what the misfiring problem is. I bet the you get a P0507 which is IAC valve related and a lot times is a vacuum leak. Those are usually very easy to find and cheap to fix.

I took it to my boy who has an 02 Type-s and he ran the code. It was p0301, p0302, and p0303, cylinders misfiring , and he told me just get new spark plugs and check for the leak for the IACV to stop doing what is doing, and also stop using the same gas , in which I use Amoco BP 93 religiously. he told me to switch it up from time to time just for the carbon inside to be released. I hope this is it for the problem to go away. Any opinions !!!
The iacv doesn't have a leak. (unless the person who did the work installed it without a gasket. Replacing the plugs is a good thing, BUT it most likely will not fix the misfire codes. Odds are you have 1 coilpack failing causing the codes.

If you're planning to replace the plugs, run a can of seafoam through brake booster line (do a search). Clean out the intake tract, then change the plugs.
Yeah, seafoam, then change plugs. If problem remains and it very well may then buy one new coil pack and change out one at a time with the new one in the front bank and see if the misfiring goes away. I bet it's one coil pack causing all this trouble. They cost about $90.00 each, just buy one. It's highly unlikely 3 coild packs went bad at the same time.
I bought from that site before and then started taking print-outs of the pricing into the dealer parts counter to show them. Now the parts guy gives me their shop price on parts which is 25% off every time I buy parts. You guys could try doing that also, you never know.
LOL. Dealer's only want your money and don't give a shit about the customer. They only pretends too when they are trying to take your money.
Just posting here because most of the IACV threads are pretty old. Just wanted to thank all those who posted re: cleaning the IACV to address the surging idle issue. I did that, but alas it didn't work. Ended up putting in a new valve and all is better. Anyhow, this forum is a wealth of support. Thanks again.
