HELP! ABS/TCS ECU not communicating with PCM!
Team Zine,
I have been looking at my ABS and TCS lights for the past month. It has been a long and tiresome process attempting to fix the problem and get them both to work once again. As a last effort I have come to the Team to see if there are some out of box ideas that I can try to solve this annoying problem.
To begin, I took my car (2000 TL-P, 102K, 2nd tranny at 83K) just to get the fluids flushed and pull a code. I thought that it would just be a minor code that could be pulled and erased but I was wrong. Turns out that the ABS/TCS ECU is not communicating with the PCM. The verbage that the Diagnostic tool used is "abs signal line failure." I apologize for not having the exact code number.
Since I took it into my friend who works at the local Honda Dealership he insisted that we look into the problem and get it fixed ASAP. He knows someone who works at the local Acura Dealership and attained the trouble shooting flow for this problem. The first thing that the flow asks is if the communication wire is continuous. We checked using a continuity checker on both ends of the connection and the result is yes. The next thing says to swap the ABS/TCS ECU with a known good unit. That didn't solve the problem. Next is to swap the PCM with a known good unit. That didn't solve the problem. We even tried to swap the ignition for a known good unit since there was a Acura flyer on such a problem and that didn't solve it either.
I am now stuck in a bind. I have a sunk cost of $430 due to parts that where used just to troubleshoot the problem. Not including the time spent in the shop waiting for the answer (still busted!). Team I am out of ideas and am asking for help. Please, any ideas are welcome and out of the box ideas are greatly appreciated!
Team, once again I thank you all for your time and your ideas.
Brian

yes. Thats the only thing i can think of thats causing the issue if you have followed the other procedures in the manual. I dont have mine near by to see what if any testing can be done on teh abs/tcs motor??

Maybe wiring problems. Possibly shorted or open communication wire(s) between the two ECU's.
