Exclamation HELP!!! 03 TL-S Transmission Noises

Hi everyone, I am a new (2G) TL owner (will post pics later). Started few days ago, the tranny sounds... funny???weird??? when i shift from P to R. its kinda like "DONT" (it literally sounds that way) and i can feel the engine's movement. In another word, it sounds like when the car is parked on a slope surface then you shift it to D, but not as loud. If you turn on the radio you wont hear it. AND YES IT IS SO HARD TO MOVE THE SHIFTER FROM P TO ANY OTHER GEARS. Other than that everything shifts smoothly. Is this a sign that the tranny is dying? Or i just need to change the transmission fluid and check all the mounts? The mileage of the car is 72k. Thanks for helping me out.

BIG PRINT HURTS MY EYES !

The motor mounts are more than likely shot.

Yes I agree. Have a friend (one you trust) sit in your car for you. Pop the hood and start the engine. Engage parking brake and stand on the brake pedal while shifting into gear while you watch the engine. If there's excessive movement it's the mounts. If its the mounts and you plan to keep your car (72000 is very low and nice) then I'd suggest installing aftermarket fixed mounts so that you won't be repeating the job again at 110000. The rear was a pain to do but I guess now that I've done it before it would be a little better but still not desirable job to need to do. If left alone it can lead to damaging other parts of your drivetrain.

Thanks for all the advises, guys. Did some research online and found out it cost about $4-600 to replace the mounts (labor+parts). Anyways I ll go to the dealer today and get the car checked thoroughly.

It costs 300 if you do it yourself. Finding it done for 4-600 parts and labor you'd be lucky. Do it yourself and save money.

Hey NvSine, if you or a friend has some tools.....do the front and top passenger side mounts yourself.
The rear is a bit of a bitch !

If you're unable to tackle this job yourself, then I'd suggest buying the three motor mounts and then take them to any local reliable auto repair shop for installation. That way you'll save on the part's cost and also the dealer's high labor rates. $ SAVE $
