Heating issue *PLEASE HELP*

***i have been trying to fix this for hours and have got nowhere and i am tired so if this is hard to understand i am sorry***

the heater in my car will not work, the fan blows but it will not come out of the vents but ever so slightly. the air that comes out is hot but there is not enough of it to warm the car. the part that holds the cabin air filters is covered in frost. does anyone know what the hell is going on and how i can fix this. thank you

**Cliff Notes**
car is a 99 tl
fan is working fine
fuse's are fine
no air coming out of vents
the thing that directs the air to the vents is working (if that makes any sense)

Welcome to Acurazine!

See the following thread for some ideas:

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-problems-fixes-117/heater-blows-cold-air-im-freezing-697840/

See post #15 for wng's description of the same "sticky cable" problem that kept the heater from working in my 1999 TL. That may not be the problem with your TL but it's easy to check out.

Also, the forum search feature can sometimes help out. I knew about that thread and a search for the word "heater" helped me find it quickly.

Good luck!

That's not a problem. Glad to help out.

Post an update when you figure out the problem.

can you select where you want the air to come from and will it change? mine will not change no matter how many times i hit mode. i was told its the mode motor behind the glove box. maybe those doors that control when the air flows is stuck in a funny position.

Seems like I read somewhere there's a way to display trouble codes specific to the climate control, on it's display. Maybe somebody with a shop manual could see if this is true?

Fixed It!!!!

Well i went for a process of elimination and found the problem. I have no idea how it happened, but what had happened is the heating unit or whatever it was (metal thing to there left of the cabin air filter) got frozen in to an over sized ice cube and was preventing the air from going through the vents. So 45mins with a hair dryer and i am back in business. The pic below is what happened sorry it sucks any insight on how to prevent this from happening in the future would be appreciated.

Geez. Sounds like you have water trapped in the evaporator box. Drain clogged?

Wow. Thanks for the update. That's something I wouldn't have expected.
