Heated Seat Problems

I'm new to this site and I have a 2000 TL...I think the driver's heated seat is out and only part of the passenger one seems to work....can someone tell me how the heated seats work or what the problem could possibly be? Anything at all would help. Thanks!!!!!!

yeah...

I had mine fixed twice and still end up broken. I gave up after the warrenty is up. Good thing BC is the warmest part of Canada and I can tolerate warming the seat up with my butt.

There is a thread titled fixed heated seats for $3
The pass seat only heats the butt because of side airbag
Driver side heats lumbar and butt
The wires that run the sysytem- much like an electric blanket
get broken and can be cut, sliced in new wire, apply heat shrink tubing
and put it all back together.
Its a bit if a job and you have to remove the seat and the seat cover
to do it, but that is the fix.
Or buy complete $$$ heater unit from dealer

If nothing works on the seat its probably the switch

To use the seat heat- put on High for a few minutes until you really feel it, then turn to low- where a thermostat will turn it on and off as needed to stay warm.
On high it runs full blast full time- and burns out the wires

Just thought I would tell you that I bought the extended warrenty (100,000 miles) when I bought my 2003 TL-S. Well, my driver seat back stopped working, so they replaced the seat heater for free under the warrenty.

And while they were at it, they told me that the passenger one needed replacing too - so I got new heaters at 93,000 miles...awesome !!! The warrenty just paid for itself...

Or does it stay down and there is no heat generated?

could be the element on the bottom of the seat? I think you should look at the write up where the guy fixed the heated seats but I personally do not feel comfortable taking the seats out and ripping the leather off....but to each their own

The thread -fixed heated seats for $3- will help you understand how the heater works. It looks much like an electric blanket you would put on a bed.

The passenger side ONLY has butt heat due to side airbag sysytem

Driver gets Butt and Low Back- lumbar

Turn on High for a few minutes to warm up then turn to low
which has a thermostat and will turn heat on and off to keep seat warm

Use of high for long periods will cause it to reach a temp overlimit switch and turn off until it cools. Also places heavy drain on battery to run High while idling for long periods-per book
