heated seat problem

My heated seat of driver side is not working.
The light on the switch is on , but there is no heating.
Is there a simple way to trouble shoot it?

wires are burnt most likely.. check the fuse first, but otherwise, you have to resolder new wires or just replace the pads (which won't really fix the problem in the long run cause the wires are just too small for the current passing through them and will burn out again)

Its unusual to lose both parts of the driver heat- normally the seat pan/butt portion fails
Check for power to the seat before digging into it.

the heater element is similar to an electric blanket for the bed. It has wires running thru it, and right where a wallet would apply extra pressure, it breaks 1 wire.
Not worth the $$$ cost for new heater skin, so you fix it instead.

2 things to make it work better:
Store wallet in center console
Run on HIGH for a few minutes to warm seat up, then LOW the rest of the time
See owner book for details- that keeps the wire temps low and allows the system to operate, then rest---operate-rest

If the element is burnt in more than one place like mine was you can get replcmt. elements at http://www.heatedseatkits.com/ for much less & they're a better design.

+1 on that site. I got a kit for my wifes odyssey from them, and it works nicely.

Ive got the same problem with my drivers seat-no heat on the back or the butt..Im just not looking forward to taking my leather seat apart..

My car had this problem also when I bought it; it wasn't disclosed on the window sticker that it didn't work but I pointed out when I bought it that it didn't work.

I am wondering if there would be any way of making the dealer fix it because it wasn't disclosed?

nope, u had to have told them before u bought the car. no the dealership will say that it broke while it was in your possession and if u dont have warranty they wont help u out.

I told the sales guy after my test drive and he said that he wouldn't be able to work the price down as much if they have to fix that.

I also bought an extended warranty with the car but I don't know if it will cover the heated seat problem, I looked in the paperwork for it and it doesn't mention anyhwere anything about a heated seat!

The time to negotiate needed repairs of a used car is prior to the sale. They're not obligated to repair it.

Ok, thanks

I am capable of doing this myself but I have fixed so many different cars for so long I am sick of turning wrenches!

I bought the TL and the additional warranty so I wouldn't have to turn any wrenches.....I guess that idea backfired. But I built my engine for my mr2 and got that all done so if all goes well no more wrench turning there!

the extended warranty should cover it under electrical parts

Good luck with that one, would venture to say somewhere in the fine print it's excluded.

An H3 kit. Used the seat back element & kept the other element in case it craps out. The butt element has the thermost. in it as the OEM one does. They sell elements only for $60 ea. If you go that route better specify which one you need.

I already had the heated seat bottom element/pad replaced. It worked for about 2 mos. and now it doesn't work anymore- butt or back. Could it be the switch now?

Just addressed recently- see current threads & DIY sticky.

What do you mean "everything seemed good"? You verified continuity through the elements? Power to elements?

harmz- ckd for power at the seat connectors?

hope you disconnected batt neg cable before seat removal-
expect SRS reset needed if not (diy)

did one section fail first, or both at once?

have you removed the leather cover for the seat and inspected the wire mat = that is the heater pad
the butt section usually breaks a wire, near where a wallet would make extra pressure on it

upper section--have to look for the burnt wire section, not as common

did you look in the thread= Heated Seat Fixed for $3 it has all you need
start at the end and read forward as needed,,its like the trans thread,,,many years of info

I've read that thread over and was looking for that but the wire may was good. Yes I did remove the battery cables. I checked the fuse also and that was good. It's only the driver seat and both back and butt part do not work. It worked perfect last winter. Never needed them in summer but last week I hit the switch and it didn't heat up :/

I just took off the leather cover and check if it had burnt or broken parts. Nothing was present.

Sorry, that's not good enough. You must verify continuity w/ an ohm meter if you really want to test them. There could be an open somewhere that is not visually evident. And if they aren't open they still will not work if there's no power reaching them.
